I’m intrigued. BREAKING: Absolutely enormous protests are currently taking to the streets of Turkey, to protest President Erdogan.Hundred of thousands of Turks no longer want to be ruled by an Islamist dictator. Of course, the media hasn’t covered any of this. pic.twitter.com/11EsGaz4qy— Eyal Yakoby (@EYakoby) March 23, 2025
Kinda interesting that the left is so adamant that the US has to remain in a military alliance at all costs with a country whose president jails his political opponents
And let's not forget all the nice things the orange Hitler-loving felon has said about Turkey's president. For example: Funny how he always seems to get along so well with autocrats who trod on people's civil rights.
Prepare for a shocker.. NATO was ultimately created to protect Europe from the Soviet Union (and other security risks). As we've seen with the Ukraine war, Turkey's location straddling the Turkish Straits and ability to shutdown the Straits to military ships, while still allowing commercial traffic, has a strategic benefit. Also, at the time that Turkey joined NATO, Soviet Bloc countries lined the Black Sea, so that benefit largely impacted Warsaw Pact countries.
Of course. Which is precisely why it makes sense for the US to demand larger European defense commitments. Under the NATO framework, Turkey then gets to play kingmaker simply based on their geographic positioning and the Ottoman 1452 conquest, regardless of whether they embody democratic ideals or not.
Big announcement from Finland post meeting with Trump The Finnish Government has today taken two key decisions, reflecting the changes in our security environment. First, Finland will raise its defence expenditure to 3% of GDP by 2029. Very illuminating, but also not surprising Not a signal Norwegian flag being waved by the crowd, really tells you all you need to know about this party and their supporters https://t.co/7aZnhNMbjQ— Nevada Man 🇺🇸🇻🇦 (@RulerofNV) May 1, 2025
The Poles have some guts, gotta give it to ‘em Polish politician Grzegorz Braun tore down the European Union flag, wiped his shoes with it, and burned it. He stated that Poland would not display the symbols of what he called a hostile organization. Immigrants to the UK reject democracy and want to institute sharia law. And the usuals want British citizens to pay for their healthcare and other benefits. “We don't like democracy. We don't like and don't care about British values and laws. Islam is better and we want Sharia law in UK. We Muslims believe only in Allah!” They want to destroy UK and make the British submit to Allah. pic.twitter.com/QGPtznD4pQ— RadioGenoa (@RadioGenoa) May 8, 2025
Germany has joined Austria, France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Bulgaria in a sweeping new move to reinstate internal Schengen border controls, marking a decisive policy shift aimed at curbing irregular migration and addressing national security concerns. Under newly elected Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Germany has launched comprehensive border enforcement measures across all nine of its land borders, deploying thousands of additional police officers and rejecting undocumented entrants arriving from fellow EU states. This alignment with other Schengen countries reflects a growing regional trend to tighten internal checks, despite ongoing debate over the long-term impact on free movement and European unity. As of May 6, 2025, Germany has begun enforcing strict checks along all nine of its land borders. These include crossings with Austria, France, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Luxembourg. The government has deployed an additional 3,000 federal border police officers, increasing the total to over 14,000 personnel actively monitoring and managing the influx at major checkpoints and road entryways. This deployment accompanies newly adopted procedures that now allow authorities to deny entry to migrants who arrive from other EU states without valid documentation. https://www.travelandtourworld.com/...border-clampdown-over-migration-and-security/
NEW: The Government's planned changes to the UK immigration system: - Work visas will only be available for degree-level jobs, and the minimum pay required to get one will go up - Lower-skilled jobs will almost never get visas (only in rare cases where there’s a major shortage - and even then, these will be strictly-limited and companies must prove they're training UK workers too) - A new expert panel will track which industries rely too much on foreign workers to push those industries to hire and train locally instead - Companies that want to sponsor visas must create a plan to fix staff shortages, such as offering better pay, apprenticeships, or more UK training - Student and family visa rules will also change - we don’t know the details yet, but the Government says the focus is "control, contribution and community cohesion" The full Immigration White Paper will be published tomorrow (Monday) 🚨 NEW: The Government's planned changes to the UK immigration system: - Work visas will only be available for degree-level jobs, and the minimum pay required to get one will go up - Lower-skilled jobs will almost never get visas (only in rare cases where there’s a major…— Politics UK (@PolitlcsUK) May 10, 2025
Good morning Britain! If you want to live in the UK, you should speak English. That’s common sense. So we’re raising English language requirements across every main immigration route.
