He may not play but..... it wouldn't surprise me if he did. This will be the 7th or 8th match of the New Year. Villarreal were bounced for CL and sit comfortably in 4th (7 points above Espanyol in 5th) and 3 pts from Atletico in 3rd. Marcelino has been using Pau Navarro and Santi Mourino at RB and I believe both are CB's by trade. It night be the perfect time to give Freeman a run out. Villarreal inevitably have some tired legs plus they've lost 4 in a row (2 la liga / 2 CL) and a little shakeup - it could be argued - might be good. Maybe Freeman plays. Maybe he doesn't. I see the logic behind both.
Hopefully Villarreal are cruising and it would be an easy way to give him a debut. With that said, no panicking if he doesn't get off the bench. Ok everyone!
Or rather, he's had more flights to get there than training sessions. Can't imagine there are any direct flights to Villareal from the States
There are not. I think you have to fly into Valencia about 40-45 miles away. Still… I don’t think there’s a direct US flight to Valencia. You fly into Madrid and take short flight to Valencia.
I watched his game this morning. I can't figure out of hand, where he would fit in best. Villareal is not one of my favorite teams in La Liga.
game over at 4-1, but Alex is -1 on his debut. He looked really nervous, IMO, so hopefully its just league adjustment jitters.
He connected a few good passes, though they stood off him a lot which was curious. Got beat badly down the line in addition to that poor/lack of marking on the corner. Still, gotta start somewhere and he's obviously showing enough in training to get a chance to show what he can do on game day. An exciting one to follow
I want him to do really well and get a transfer to PSG so we can have a Joni Mitchell song for a thread title.
