actually Emir WAS given a shot. I watched the game he played for the USA. We cant really chase every dual nat player like a hooker looking for Johns.
I never said anyone WASN'T given a shot. I'm saying what I said: if we DON'T give the best players a shot then they'll never play for us. Chasing guys who are not the best BECAUSE they have dual-citizenship is a different matter. Also, I frequently wonder if you are ACTUALLY Bruce Arena.
No... the point Mt Stone and I are making is that Banks may not even have the chances he has right now w/o the exposure/experience/confidence he got from playing for our YNTs. I am OK with young players testing out different YNTs w/ camps and maybe conference tourneys but there should be a cap-locked number and/or major YNT tourney rule... E.g.... you appear in a U20 WC for Country A then you are cap-tied to said country.
wow cant beleive no one is even talking about banks apparently choosing germany over usmnt, as reported today weird https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/noahkai-banks-leaning-towards-germany-200100618.html this sucks
Abandoning the USA on the Eve of a home World Cup. Should never be called into another US camp ever again, whether he ever gets cap tied by Germany or not. He's done.
He could be gaming it.... If he doesn't get called into the March camp then he is out so it could be about applying pressure. But when you hear this kind of thing it usually means he wants to go another direction. I think he has a ton of potential but he isn't going to make the German NT this WC... and if he doesn't.... he is only one injury or poor run of form away from being forgotten. For me?... The minute I heard he was thinking of going Germany he was near-dead to me. Last week was the first time I didn't tune in to watch him play.
To fully abandon the USA, Banks would have to file his one-time switch with FIFA since he played in the U-17 World Cup with the USA. But, yes, I agree that if he turns down the USA this close to the World Cup he should be done with the U.S. program. But then again, it's not my decision. Whatever happens, I hope the USMNT days of begging dual nats and guaranteeing call-ups are over.
We need to thread the needle here, maintaining our standards and retaining some dignity. I would plead, implore, entreat, appeal and importune, but I wouldn’t beg or supplicate.
Poch is not the type of coach you should be trying to "game it". All this talk of switching to Germany in the media, and zero definite answers and reassurances to commitment to the US program from Banks himself; I'd say pretty much no way Poch calls him up.
He's a long-time USYNTer who the DFB didn't give the time of day until recently. That makes this much worse than, say, if Balogun had not switched to the US after the March 2023 unofficial USMNT experience. You couldn't blame Balogun in that case because England gave him many YNT opportunities and valued him. The ironic thing is this is immediately coming after what was widely regarded as one of Banks' worst starts of the season.
He has absolutely no shot at making this German WC team. So among his peers is he a top three German CB under age say 24? If the answer is no then why would he even think he'll get a German call up? He's only played for the US. Someone should have Dest give him a call and talk about why you continue to dance with the one whose always brought you.
Probably. He’s second among German CBs in that age cohort in Bundesliga minutes this season and is one of 4 with over 1,000.
I don't know how closely you follow Germany, but these days all their defenders are pretty crap. Given Banks age it would not be crazy to think he would be in the discussion for Germany within the next few years. Which would give him the chance to play in 2-3 World Cups & 2-3 Euros and not have to spend his international breaks flying 10,000 miles to play vs. CONCACRAP in games where the USA is always the away side.
He's at the bar with a great looking eight and shes ready to invite him home but the ten across the room thats surrounded by dudes happened to wink at him maybe so he is going to tell the eight to go home.
I was fine caring about these things when we lost because we lacked talent. But now we mostly lose because we lack commitment. So whatever.
Only way he chooses the US is if he doesn’t play well enough for Germany. Although, I’m not sure I want someone who only sees us as a backup option.
