Top of the line authentic/Vapor™️ baker mayfield jersey is only $150. Think Adidas believes that the average kit buying American soccer fan is a little richer than the average football fan.
Another thought. . . Could this lead to a primary kit with a more balanced representation of black and gold next year?
Not that this is the deciding factor but Columbus has plenty of gray sports gear. Having a primarily yellow jersey does make it distinctive even in the local market
I know I'm definitely in the minority, but I kinda like the new kits. I definitely don't want yellow to be phased out, but this is a nice way to change things up briefly. When it comes to the fans, this jersey gives you a little something different for your wardrobe. I'm kind of excited to have something that isn't mostly yellow or mostly black. And when it comes to the on-field product, especially on TV, the yellow shorts and socks will still make it instantly obvious who's playing.
does the team get any say? just seems like there are a lot of pretty similar looking white kits adidas is pumping out for teams across the league. kinda like how baseball does white/gray for nearly everyone
A year old, but should answer your questions: https://theathletic.com/1586210/202...inside-look-at-mls-and-adidas-design-process/
Fantastic analysis. Spot on. I think we should affectionately unofficially officially call it just that.
For Christmas the In-Laws sent cash telling me to get the Jersey I wanted. I debated about the Black Champions Jersey, or waiting for the new one. Feeling really good about my decision to get last years.
I'm honestly not a fan of the current black jersey. I'd take this new one over it any day. But Yellow reigns supreme over them all.
I like the look of the white jersey from a neutral perspective. As others said, it's different but not off the wall like the For Columbus kits were. It is definitely sharp and clean. Saying that....I really like the yellow version @Sagz posted. I would pay the outrageous price for that!
Do I think it's good? nope Do I think it could be a lot worse? yup No way I'm paying $150 for an authentic jersey. If I'm paying $100 for the replica, it really should at least have the stars on it. Pass
My only problem with it is, even if it is super successful, and you wind up with a full New Crew Stadium of fans wearing it... it’s just a grandstand of white... not discernible as Crew fans at all... the way a wall of yellow would be...
It really would be a logical arrangement. A sponsorship that aligns with products that fans can actually buy, highlighted by what should be (again) one of the best playing surfaces in the league. They're not Fortune 500, but close enough; 753, with over $3B in annual revenue.
Reading between the lines, my take was that you can't just have a decent designer, or push for a specific design. You need to understand the way adidas does design, the processes they use. That's supposed to be the thing Marcus Dilley has going for him. He was on the adidas team that designed these things (albeit, not for terribly long), and therefore should talk whatever talk is required for adidas to give us what we want.
