I think this applies only for the Semis. I would hope Gillette would be in the mix for the Hex, but that would be '09.

Word is there will be a USMNT friendly with Italy this summer "in the North East" :D. A game like that would bring new meaning to the phrase "North End of the field".

The word was that we'd be playing a top 5 in the world team. It most likely won't be Italy though, as they have some type of tournament this summer. ;)

If, in fact, the match is against a "top 5" opponent, it will probably be Argentina. The other top 5 have prior engagements.

Agreed, that's my feeling as well. And the rumor is the game will be in the northeast somewhere, so DC, NY, here? Philly?

Possibly, but if it's an Argentina, I can't see them playing in at Hartford. They'll want to maximize revenues for a match like that one.

After last year's Brazil-Mexico match, I'd think Gillette would get strong consideration.

The Brazillian fans would probably show up just to heckle Argentina! ;)

I think many will remember talking to Tornberg shortly after Brazil/Mexico and his conversation with the promoter for Brazil....

In short he said the promoter for Brazil LOVED the support the Gillette crowd showed....and mentioned he'd like to bring Brazil back soon...maybe against another of the countries he promoted.....Argentina or Italy.

Maybe he was convinced to put Brazil/Argentina against the US??

What do you the the support split would be between:

    US v. Brazil

    &

    US v. Argentina

US Brazil would have a ton more Brazil fans (and wannabe Americans who'll show up to root for Brazil). US Argentina will be more in favor of the US (including the Brazilians who show).

I think there's a good chance it'll be the US versus somebody, not a Brazil/Argentina match.

I would love to see US v Brazil where we're outnumbered, more incentive to sing louder.

Not to mention they'd probably start a samba right outside the Fort, and I love me some Brazilian women:)

Dont forget Argentina played games in Foxboro during 1994 World Cup - and there was a strong Argentinian presence in the stands. The atmosphere for Argentina-Greece and Argentina-Nigeria was pretty awesome.

What about England? There not in the European Championships, I can't imagine that there up to anything this summer.

Maradona's last real game was in the 'boro... until he got too heavily into the decongestants;-)

Definitely (although there will be the wannabes still). There are (relatively) few Argentines in the US - especially compared to Brazilians, Mexicans, Guatemalans, Hondurans and Salvadorans.

Does anyone think the FieldTurf hurts our chances for a WC qualifying match?

    It probably doesn't help.

I would bet on E. Hartford getting at least one qualifying game. The guy I was working with from USSF said they love "the Rent" as they get good crowds, good atmosphere and it is just the right size, field wise and seating

In the third paragraph of this article: http://www.thisisamericansoccer.com/us-mens-national-team/the-barometer-32/#more-408 it says the game against the "top 5 opponent" will be in New England. Kind of narrows it down from just the northeast.

The first professional soccer game I ever went to was US-Latvia at Rentschler. I think it's a great venue for soccer. Maybe the Revs could move down here. Kraft kind of owes us.

If the Revs ever move to Hartford, I can't see myself going to games anymore. The 1 hour 15-30 minute drive to Gillette is fine, but there's no way I'm going to be driving 2 and a half hours.

Call me a fair weather fan or what have you, but I think many people may feel the same way.

Why would Kraft move the Revs from a stadium he owns and controls to one where he would pay rent (no pun intended) and lose control of concessions and parking?

    Call it wishful thinking.
