Three years is a long time for learning a language.

True, but the only time he was ever in an English environment was for nats games...

And people here always looked as Regis as a snooty French guy who didn't deserve to wear the shirt.

I'm sure at some point he learned some English, but that was one of the reasons given for playing on the left.

Doesn't much matter now. This thread is supposed to be about the nat with the mullet.

    Which one?

If you go back to 1990, the whole team had mullets (Harkes, Meola, Wynalda...):D .

(Sorry...couldn't resist......I assume you're actually talking about Spector since he's in the thread title.;) )

and who one the list of fringe defenders has really locked down the spot of the last defender?

Pearce - too inexperienced and looked overwhelmed at times
Dunivant - one could say he had, but his injury really pushed him back
Berhalter and Conrad - not exactly lighting up the USMNT lately
Albright - he looks great on set pieces and is strong in the air, but how is he at actually playing his position? Defensively he is subpar, he isn't fast by an international standard for an outside back...etc.
Hejduk - fast, but is looking old and his crosses while improved have gone from out of bounds to poor.

In the end, no one has locked it down. So do you go with the young, inexperienced rising star........the solid MLS professional who was looking good but got injured.....the aging veterans who don't play outside back which really is the position you need to fill (not CB).....the guy who doesn't fit into Arena's system.........or perhaps the guy whose best days are behind him?

At the end of the day, Spector has done enough to show that he deserved to be there as much as the other options.

IMHO.....Hejduk goes because 1) Arena trusts him, 2) WC experience and has performed well at the WC.

IMHO I would take Spector before all of the above list every day of the week. He is young and green, but he has been playing well lately for Charlton and has played both on the right and the left.

But alas...he got injured and is now gone..makes the decision that much easier.
