Can somebody confirm that there is no TV for the game against KC this coming Saturday? I checked Direct Kick, Fox Sports and others and can't find any TV - which will suck. Thanks.

On mlsnet.com there is the sights and sounds tab. Last week every game not on ESPN2 was here, with a minute ot two delay, so virtually live. Broadband is required but a lot of people have that now. I watched parts of NE v NY on there and it was good quality, even on full screen.

So I don't know when they will update the sights and sounds schedule, but it might be on-line.

Looks like the KC game is going to be on mlsnet sights and sounds. It is listed there today. For those with broadband connections and two hours to kill infront of a computer, I recommend this option. The video quality is high and it is better than missing the game.

    Wait.....

Does that mean it's not on Direct Kick either?

I looked at the schedule and it wasn't there.....

Yes. If there is no local affiliate carrying the game, it will not be broadcast. It is usually the visiting team that arranges coverage.

Just the first in many games that KSE decided aren't necessary to broadcast. And yes, I consider 5 or 6 games many. I actually consider 1 or 2 games many.

i saw it on the web site. looks promising. i hope the link is accurate :D

i kinda regret getting the shootout package now knowing i could get these matches for free on the net. but whatever helps the league. (i wonder how much of that $70 goes to the league and how much indemand keeps)

that is a good question. a few years ago there was an interview done with someone who keeps track of these things at MLSHQ, and he said MLS made a "significant" amount of money off the Direct Kick (then Shootout) package.

by "significant" who knows what he meant, but if it pays for itself and then some, consider it a success for the league and its fans.

Wow, I've never visited the Sights and Sounds section before. That's pretty cool. Last year you could only get that through Yahoo for a few dollars more. Good work by the league...

Unfortunately, unless I'm looking in the wrong place (which is extremely possible), it looks like the link is gone. No soup for you!

I didn't get the shootout package because they couldn't promise me that all of the Rapids games would be shown. I won't give them one penny until they show all the Rapids games. I am supprised that there will be even a web cast . Is there a local channel in KC carrying the game?

Looking at the MLS Sights and Sounds, http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/sights/ ,
it shows 350K next to several of the matches but nothing next to the Rapids and Kansas City. For those who have already used this method of watching the match, does that mean it will be available, but not at that high a download speed, or does it mean it will not be on at all? I don't want to get my hopes up, and camp around my computer only to find that it isn't really there. Please let all of us know because this sounds like the only hope for those who can't travel to KaySee to see the Wee Zerds. (See Bill, I can spill two!!!) :D

Yeah it seems as if they removed the 350K. don't count on a feed. the best we'll get are a few highlights on MLS Wrap. Thank kroenke for the wonderful tv coverage.

If the Rapids are not broadcasting the game, and if the Wizards are not either, and neither is FSW or anyone else, then there cannot be any video on the MLS Site, because that is where they would take it from.

Looks like the best bet is the internet match tracker...

Maybe a KC fan can take a camcorder and record the game then download it to a streaming video site so we can see it!!!

    Or maybe not

Sorry to start more KSE bashing, but from the looks of things, what I first thought was good for the team and it's fans is quickly looking like a step in the wrong direction. KSE actions to date seem to indicate that the Rapids acquisition is just another notch in their proverbial belt, but that they aren't really interested in growing the team.

Seems like we've seen less TV advertising, no real interest in showing many away games on TV, poor decision making related to the pregame, sideline, halftime, and post-game activities, and no real interest in keeping their existing fan base.

I understand that the decision to not broadcast may simply be related to contract issues with FSN and the lack of a future relationship due to the upcoming Altitude (Attitude) Sports & Entertainment Network. However, alienate the true fan, and chances are you'll be alienating a majority of the season ticket base, as I believe that is likely where the season ticket base has come from.

KSE, if you are listening (which I strongly doubt), please get it together.

We love this game, we love this team, so please wake up and give us something, before we give up and (heaven forbid) become KC Wizzers fans, or something even more foolish.

I know it is the reality we face, but it is discouraging when I look at the TV schedule, see that I can watch 8 golfing events, Bull Riding, College Volleyball, 4 boxing matches, probably even middle school chess, but I can't listen or watch the Rapids. The website says under News, as though that was good, that I can watch the match through matchtracker. Sort of sounds like gathering around the crystal set to listen to FDR. It isn't KSE's fault per se, but at times I wished that I lived somewhere else like Europe, where I might have to choose between sources to watch a match. This is isn't a declaration that I will be soon moving, I love Denver and have lived here all my 56 years, but it is tedious that soccer always takes such a back seat. I think that instead, I will sit in front of the stove tonight, and watch the electric burners heat up. Almost as much fun as tracking!!! :(

I've decided to go out on a limb here and blame the bastardaccios in KC.

Too busy in their backyards bbq-ing to focus on getting TV coverage for their own dang home game -- especially one where they actually expect good attendance due to all their freebies for "Break the Record Attendance" event.

How stupid is it to not want to broadcast your only game with actual, you know, patrons?

Clearly you don't have to be a wizard to figure this one out.

    Cheers,

why blame kc? they NEVER traditionally broadcast home games. no one does except the revs and metros. and a night when you give away a ton of free tickets all the people who have tickets and see the weather sucks are more likely to stay home and watch on tv rather than brave the crappy weather. blame the guy too cheap to pay for broadcast crews on road games.

MLS ought to require someone arrange TV coverage. The league is so close to having all of its games televised it's a shame (including historical archival reasons) to have a few missing. Say some obsessive fan out there want to watch every MLS game or have all of them on tape, MLS is basically blowing them off and telling them to focus elsewhere. This is like mid 80s baseball.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "obsessive fan" (singular).

Bill, I have to disagree with you here. It is not up to the home team to arrange coverage, it's up to the visiting team. Think about it: wouldn't you rather have fans actually coming to your game as the home team and as the visiting team, wouldn't you like for your fans to be able to see it? This is purely a KSE issue and one they don't have any intention of changing for the season. But just wait until next year when the Rapids have their own network so they can compete with the Mammoth and Crush for airtime. Oh, and in 2006 or beyond, the Rapids get a stadium.

Let's not forget that the bulk of the fees paid by KSE -- or any owner -- for MLS broadcasts go to the production teams (Winner Communications has an exclsuive contract), on-air talent, and satellite windows.

The only money that KSE may save with their own network is that they won't have to fork over anything for airtime... but in effect, they're already paying for it.

Yes but they'd make more advertising money ... and can tie the Rapids to the Nuggets and Av's broadcasts.
