Last month, I reported on a potential USL franchise in Tampa for 2009. According to my source, the perspective owners were a group based in the Southwest who were also looking at opportunities in Texas, Arizona and Nevada. Could this be the alternative to USL's Tampa franchise? Ive emailed my source, so I will know soon-- lets hope not. But this also raises an interesting question: would you actively support an a-league side in Tampa? Certainly Miami FC's poor attendance has done nothing to boost that city's MLS bid. So where is the disconnect? Lets hear your thoughts.
I don't think so. The owner of the Austin Aztex lives in Austin and has for some time. So the connection for him is obvious. Maybe someone in Tampa was trying to lure him there, but from everything I've seen, that Galactics group are intending to be the USL-1 teams in Tampa. But I haven't followed it all that closely.
Good question I think it will play out like this: USL-1 for a team in Tampa by 2010 and PDL-USL for Clearwater Galactics 2011 Miami in MLS and 2012 Tampa in MLS
