having just finished watching the fulham/liverpool and hannover/bremen games, i came away with the distinct impression that our ya's dont get any help from their teammates. now i am not accusing them of sandbagging and TRYING to mess up our players, but they dont seem to help at all.

i just kept wondering how many times iridissou, boa morte, brdaric, and lala would lose the ball after getting good service from our ya's. i think mathis should have had 2 assists (how iridissou missed that wide open header from 2 feet ill never know), and mcbride laid off some great balls to boa morte. for mchead, he should have had 2 goals but his guys couldnt get him the ball. wide open in front of the net 2 times, and all he saw was really poor service.

needless to say, my frustration level grew as the games went on, and i just knew that mathis would be taken off. i was already disappointed to see brian start on the bench, and of course dead snake play the complete 90.

maybe i am crazy, but we all know how timmy was benched even though his defense let him down time and again, and the rest of our guys get the shaft time and again. maybe our players take an unfair amount of blame for what happens on the pitch. what do you guys think?

I think that is a pretty ridiculous post to say teammates are purposely trying to miss goals that are passes from YA's. Mathis played like crap, so he gets taken off. TImmy lets in soft goals, so he takes a seat. It's easy for us to get all excited about our YA's when they are playing good, but when they aren't producing it doesn't mean there is some conspiracy against american players either. I wasted too much time on this response.

no, what you didnt take enough time doing was reading. i said specifically that i was NOT accusing anyone of purposefully messing with ya's. my point was that i saw a lot of great things from our players (and i never said that they were the BEST on the field or anything like that) that never came to fruition because of the poor play of some of their teammates, and it seems as if they take an undue amount of blame for the lack of production of the team as a whole.

case in point were these two games. mathis should have at least had one assist on a beautifully taken free kick that would have resulted in a game-winning goal, and mcbride could have had 2 goals with decent service to him standing all alone in front of goal.

so, please read the post before making stupid comments. thank you.

I don't think Mathis is getting the shaft. He's still starting, even when he's not creating goals.

Unfortunately, the strikers were just that incompetent this weekend, and would have missed those chances whether it's Mathis creating those chances or someone else. That being said, they're normally not that bad. McBride and Mathis created what should have been sure goals this weekend, but you're basically looking at a one-match sample here.

I agree with both sides here.
Point # 1 Nobody is sand bagging anybody.
Point #2 = yes, Mathis could very easily have 6-7 assists at this point. His personal statistics are weaker than they should be. Think about it, why did Hannover bring him into the team in the first place, they needed help creating and scoring. He has scored and he has created, the only problem is that the other attcking players have no composure. If he played with players around him that could do the same as him, both create and score, his points would be very, very impressive. I am not saying that Mathis is amazing or that he is a well rounded player, but he does have a gift around the goal. If he had players of his creativity and composure around him, he would be shining. All that said, he does need to pick up his game and find a way to continue producing if he wishes to keep his spot or advance his career.

No sandbagging at all, just Idrissou sucks donkey balls.

And as for Hayles - What is Coleman's infatuation with this guy? He is the worst offensive player they have, and he practically starts alone up top? I'd rather have John Wolyniec on my team than Barry Hayles!!!
(I mean, I could stomach if Boa Morte and Collin John start ahead of McBride, but Hayles is just pants)

That Mathis's attacking teammates have been losing the ball quite a bit after he plays them a nice ball? That McBride hasn't been getting great service at Fulham? I'm not seeing the comedy there -- maybe you can help me out and explain how exactly it's comical.

Crazy is a rather strong word. However, I may have to agree with you here.

I think that our Yanks are not being supported by their 'mates because they lack talent around them, except for Timmy. Not because they are being sandbagged or sabotaged, which is a ridiculous thought. The roles for our boys are ever changing. For the first time our boys are the centerpieces for their squads and they are counted on week in and week out. They need to understand this and step their games up a notch. I'm not saying their games are lacking I'm just saying they need to go after the game instead of letting the game come to them. Now teams covet the everyday services of Yanks, instead of them being used as "practice" players and wasting away on the bench.

    ok, for the last time:

I DIRECTLY SAID THAT I WAS NOT ACCUSING ANYONE OF SANDBAGGING. PLEASE READ MORE CAREFULLY.

as for more evidence of my point, kicker rated clint a 4.5, and gave iridissou a 4 - which means they thought he (iridissou) played a better game. if anyone agrees with that, they ought to go back and rewatch the game. that is exactly a case where mathis gets singled out as playing horribly when he could have assisted on the game-winning goal if his teammates could finish better.

Note to all furriner players with an American on their team....pass the ball to the Yank, or else someone in the Big Soccer Yanks Abroad area will make fun of you.

There that should solve the problem. :D

It certainly was in Hannover's match this weekend. Not that it always is. I'll be one of the first to call out an American player who's playing badly. But this week, a half-decent performance by the Hannover strikers would have given Clint at least one assist if not more.

Anybody want to do the McHead/Mathis missed sitter count for the year? If O'Brien wasn't hurt he'd be leading the Ered in assists. If Ruud played for City Reyna'd be capped by Brazil. If Tigana wasn't French, Lewis would have replaced Beckham, even though it's his off wing.
    SING WITH ME NOW!
    Spurs backs abandon Keller,
Blackburn's sun got in Brad's eyes
    Ian Feuer'd be the man,
if it weren't for his giant size.
    Beasley'd rock at Ajax
If Sikora had just said no.
    Mathis would be leading Bayern
if MLS had just said "go!"
    Wade Barrett, he's unlucky
that is side is playing crap
    Robbie Russell'd be at Chelsea
if he'd learn to read a map
    Gooch would start for Monaco
if he hadn't stayed in school
    Berhalter'd be leading Palace up
if Sinclair weren't such a tool.

    NOW TO "BLAME CANADA" -
Blame teammates! Blame teammates! And coaches, owners, gaffers too!
Blame teammates! Blame teammates! It's the BS thing to do!

I wonder where you get Brazil from, absurdity aside. Reyna was born in Argentina; but was capped by the US at a pretty young age.

Judging from your post, you can pretty much go ahead and remove the "maybe" part.
