No Stankovic sale say Lazio Wednesday 4 June, 2003 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lazio have confirmed that Dejan Stankovic will not be sold this summer, even if the same can’t be said of Jaap Stam and Bernardo Corradi. "Stankovic has a 100 per cent chance of staying," said general administrator Luca Baraldi. "While there is a 50 per cent chance that Stam and Corradi will remain. "They are all men that Coach Roberto Mancini wants to keep hold of because they are good players. "As a club we will do everything in our power to make sure they stay but marriages are made in two. Whoever continues to play for Lazio must be happy to do so." There is still a cloud of uncertainty over some players at the club after the Biancocelesti cut costs in order to try to resolve their financial problems. While Stankovic, linked with Juventus, Inter and Milan, accepted a new salary reduced contract, Stam and Corradi haven’t as of yet. The Dutch stopper has consistently been linked with a move north as both Juventus and Milan are seriously interested. While the same two clubs have also been linked with the services of Corradi who again netted for Italy last night in the 2-0 win over Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, one player that could arrive at the Olimpico over the next few weeks is Atalanta stopper Cesare Natali. The former Under-21 international is expected to be sold after the Nerazzurri’s relegation to Serie B. "We need to construct a side that will be able to compete in the Champions’ League," added boss Mancini. The 24-year-old has had a good campaign in Bergamo and has also been linked with moves to Newcastle and Arsenal. From Channel 4.
This is basically a follow up... "Baraldi: Lazio struggling to keep Stam, Corradi Posted on - 4 June 2003 at 8:44 AM Lazio sports director Luca Baraldi has admitted the club is struggling to hold onto Jaap Stam and Bernardo Corradi for next season. Baraldi said: "Stankovic will remain with us - 100 per cent. We are talking about renewing his contract, but he is a serious boy, a true professional. "As far as Stam and Corradi goes, instead, there is a 50 per cent possibility that they will be with us next season. "As far as the Dutch defender, our objective is to keep him. He is an irreplaceable player and we do not want to sell him, particularly in the current market.""
I dont know if I can trust the assuring words of Baraldi. As long as nothing is on paper I wont get my hopes up too much. Anyway, it will be good that Deki stays. I hope we can keep Corradi too, because we seriously need forwards. We also need Stam a lot for the defense. But he is one player im sure will leave.
Deki is our best player and future captain, so I'm glad he's staying... So many rumors out there...with the way Corradi is playing for the national team Juve will scoop him up... Latest is Lazio getting a player like Di Vaio and Maresca (Juve midfielder, had a good season on loan at Piacenza)... Replacing Stam is a larger problem for sure...the thought of our current defense without Stam in the Champions League is scary...
