He was good. I gave him his flowers. His best two matches this season were against Barcelona but it's not enough.

He's been ass for 1.5 years and may have played a big part in getting this manager fired never mind the emotional outbursts from getting rage baited by everyone. We've all seen that Vini can't be benched by the coach, so I hope he's included in the XI because he's actually consistently doing well.

We'll see how he does now that the manager that was holding him back is now gone.

Poor Arbeloa about to be the scapegoat. He's gonna get booted by the end of the season like Solari. I don't think this is a Zidane scenario.

I highly respect Alvaro for what he is done for the club but he will get eaten alive.
A madridista through and through though, came from the academy.

Another club icon being thrown to the wolves by Floppy and JAS, that's a no-no from me.
Instead it is these saboteurs-in-chief who should leave, the same saboteurs who spent years trying to make sure the main domestic rivals of the club are competitive.

When I saw the news, this is what I thought - the board is dreaming that we can replicate 2015-2016 with Zidane taking over Benitez. But neither Arbeloa is Zidane, neither the squad is what we had back then.

I think people will be surprised by his strong character as opposed to Xabi. He is also a real madridista, not an adopted madridista. He might not be Zidane or even Alonso in terms of footballing genius but he will be able to speak with authority from a position of Madridista and project those values to the players. Fight or Die.

Tactically I have no idea at all but I think we can guess at least that he has more personality and character than Xabi and he might be able to emotionally charge up the team more. It won't be hard to improve in that department at least.

To be fair you might be right. I think it's more interim coach idea anyway. 6 months and then go for the best available candidate in the summer. Although imagine if he "does a zidane". I will love it.

On one hand, nobody will refuse a job as coach of Real Madrid (well, unless you already coached it and got fired...)
On the other, I don't think Arbeloa is dumb and he knows his chances of having suddenly a successful rest of the season and not getting sacked in the summer are very close to zero, so for him it's more a publicity stunt.

Perez will scapegoat him at the end of the year and then Perez will open the checkbook and sign whomever Perez think should play and then get another coach that will not have a say in who to sign.

I put my money that after a failure in the world cup with Brazil this summer - Carlo will be back next season.

oh, and all the best to Arbeloa!

I’ll give it two weeks before the “mob” get tired from the pressing and start to throw him under the bus. Meanwhile, Perez will begin to apply pressure from the top down as soon as the children disapprove of Arbeloa’s tactics.

Poor Arbeloa is walking into a situation most would describe as unwinable. I respect him, he always had the cojones. That being said, I fear for him.

If there’s one thing we don’t have is players. half of the defense is constantly injured.
Most of the games we have midfielders in defense.
we don’t have a boss in midfield to actually control tempo.
And we don’t have a striker. Well we do actually have a striker, even one that can score, but now that the players have complete control over the lineup, he will never play again.

Xabi couldn't get the players to buy into Guardiola-style situational/controlled pressing, but Arbeloa is going to get them to all-out "gegenpressing"? Good luck with that, genuinely.

For better or worse, it's him now and he should have our support. He didn't make the decisions, so he deserves full support.

There is gonna be the customary new manager boost for a few games.

After that, it's gonna be where the real fun starts.

Arbeloa expects his teams to be intense and run. Good luck with that.
