Well, it is, or will be good for the team IF he can use this snub as a motivation to lift more trophies for Galaxy - you know...to show his haters and doubters that they are wrong to snub him.

I wonder if Pearcy (as Becks calls him) was being told by the Olympic committee to snub him, because they want to use him as their personal mascot when the Games come in August. I hope Becks will turn them down.

Really feel for him right now. But let's hope he will use this snubbing to focus all of his energy towards the Galaxy and most importantly, to enjoy it.

    Good Luck, Becks!

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not like he’s been unmotivated or underperforming this season, I’d argue he has been the most consistent and arguably best player for the team in 2012. If he can attain another level mores the better.

Strange decision by Pearce, I understand not taking Beckham, but Bellamy? I have sneaking suspicion there Welsh FA made demands on the number of players represented in Team GB.

Yeah, I agree with you, though I have to say that I didn't mean or say that he's been bad or not playing that well for the Galaxy this season, in fact I think he is (one of) the most consistent Galaxy player this season as well - thus the inclusion of him in (almost) every game (I was shocked that he played all 3 games last week for full 90 minutes for each game!). It's just that...dissapontment over something in life can sometime affect your performance on the field. But knowing Becks...I guess he will use this snubbed as part of his motivaters to win. Like you said...if he can UP his level than what he is right now it's better.

Really hope he'll turn down their "invitation" to be their personal mascot for the Games. Flying there for 1 or 2 days when Galaxy has no game is ok, but not the entire week.

One more thing...there goes the chance for London, or more importantly the football tournament itself, to gain money, attention and interest as their most important source is being left out. It's not like they can win the gold medal anyway....

I mainly meant it's good because having an unmotivated Beckham is better then no Beckham at all, given our lack of depth.

Agreed. I must say considering the lengths Beckham went to to help Great Britain acquire the games it’s rather shabby treatment. I know it’s supposed to be about what’s best for the team, but Giggs’s inclusion, great though he may still be, is very much a gesture. I bet David will go though, our FA/Olympic Committee may not have any class, but Becks has it in spades.

    ?
I'd say Giggs is playing better than DB, if I'm being honest.
And I still fully expect him to log considerable intercontinental miles to play big public role. In fact I would not be surprised if this proves more disruptive than simply being part of a team that may not go far in the tourney for a few weeks. He'll be there for the opening and who knows what else.

I feel bad for Becks. It is good for the Galaxy that he will be here, but personally I know he wanted to represent his country one last time. Very bittersweet moment for me as a long-standing fan of Beckham.

Here's hoping he doesn't catch the Juninho effect.

Piers Morgan called MLS and the Galaxy "a glorified pub team."

Where's Dema Kovalenko when you need him? What a troll.

Sad for him as a fan, but glad for the team. He needs to stick around, it's finally starting to come together.

Hopefully he still has enough fire in him that this will motivate him to push himself even harder. (Not that I thought he was slacking, but there's always that higher level.) Another MLS Cup would cheer him up, and prove the doubters wrong. He lives for that kind of thing.

Piers Morgan will always be ridiculous.

I understand him making an appearance at the Games, but I hope he will limit his involvement. As for the photo ops and his image.... I think he may have reached the point where it is not possible to become any more famous than he already is - no matter what he does or what he achieves.

On a British quiz show, Stephen Fry was asked to come up with an alternative definision for the word "countryside".

His reply was "murdering Piers Morgan".

Actually quite the opposite. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have repeatedly expressed that they would prefer for their players not to be included, in case it compromises their status as separate associations.

For anyone who doesn't know, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales are technically one nation (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). They are allowed to play separately due to tradition (England vs Scotland was the first ever 'international' game) but the situation has a number of opponents.

Unfortunately for the home nations, the Welsh don't have any legal recourse to stop Giggs and Bellamy playing. Sir Alex Ferguson however, has ways and means. Don't be surprised if Giggs is mysteriously declared injured a week before the games. ;)

Sure, but - and mind you this is tinfoil hat stuff – I was speculating that while publicly against a Team GB behind closed doors they were negotiating a minimum number of Welsh representatives. Though it appears the women’s team is largely absent of Welsh members. To be honest the Bellamy inclusion just has me scratching my head.

Totally agree, but is he one of the three best over-aged player from the British Isles who didn’t play at Euro 2012? Giggs’s inclusion seems more a gesture and a well deserved one.

Honestly, I think this is terrible for the Galaxy. I am sure Beckham will ask for time off to attend the Olympics (all 3 weeks) and I am sure it will be given. But now, instead of distracting he will just be there taking photos and watching sports.

Also, I am sure he now regrets not going to PSG. This will absolutely shatter his confidence and motivation.

What makes you think we'd let him go?

It's not like when he first arrived and MLS had bet the farm on him and needed to placate his every whim. We've had an awful season bar last week and our post-season hangs in the balance.

If he's not going for sporting reasons or a brief, ceremonial appearance which doesn't require him to miss any games, he needs to be here.

Indeed, I will be very angry as a STH, if Los Angeles Galaxy permits him to go for the duration.

The team has a duty to me to not compromise my team's season by releasing a key player for a needless trip.

They let him go for a testimonial match... you think they'd deny him 3 weeks of the Olympics?

Bellamy leaked that he would be in the squad weeks ago. It is strange as he isn't able to play full matches, let alone multiple games in a row. He can make a great impact sub, but that's not what I would bring in over aged players for.
I'm guessing they chose Micah Richards over Beckham, as they lost 2 defensive options in Martin Kelly and Phil Jones to the Euros leaving them vulnerable on the right side of defense.

Also, Beckham played quite bad defensively in the games that their coach flew over to watch. Lots of walking around at the end of games. Maybe that turned him off to Beckham? Who knows. Anyway, judging by team strength, I don't think anyone has a chance to touch Brazil at this tournament.

Coming from Piers Morgan it does not matter. His show is worthless anyway.

Opening ceremony is July 27th, which it is reported that Beckham is involved in. We have an away game in Dallas on the 28th, which it looks like he will miss.

GB has friendlies leading into the Olympics. So the GB squad is probably getting together a few weeks before the games begin. GB's first Olympic game is on July 26th and the Gold medal match is on August 11th.

If Beckham would of been included in the squad he might of missed a total of 9 LAG games and the MLS All-Star Game.

    July 14th: Portland
    July 18th: Vancouver
    July 21st: Chivas USA
    July 24th: Tottenham (Oh well)
July 25th: MLS All-Star Game (Oh well)
    July 28th: Dallas
August 2nd: Real Madrid (Oh well)
    August 5th: Seattle
    August 12th: Chivas USA
    August 15th: Columbus (maybe)

That's a lot of really important games!!! 6 western conference teams in that stretch. I feel bad for Becks, but hopefully this snub doesn't affect his morale and play for the Galaxy.
