Is it me or has anyone else noticed that the MLS has gotten very little coverage on the news despite the fact that the playoffs are going on. I watched ESPN all day yesterday hoping to get an update on the Chicago game and got absolutely nothing. Then I tried to see if it would be on the morning news and got shafted. Why are all networks neglecting the sport so much?

Because they can. If you are relying on ESPN you can forget it until the sport averages over 20K a game with a median over 20K a game as well. At that point in time they might recognize it.

think of what kind of economic impact we have compared to college football, major league baseball, the nfl, tennis and golf in this country... then come back and let me know what you think

Sad but true. But still don't the news shows have a duty to report on everything out there?

    lol

you do watch the news shows... right???

they are paid by advertisers... that is why our "news" is rampant with yellow journalism and sensationalism

our sports news are pretty much just the big time sports and the rare weird or exceptionally outstanding performance (the world record in the 100m the other day was the 10th play of the day... not the first, the 10th... go figure)

Fine, but compare it with, say, the WNBA.

Or consider the impact of WC94. Did it get THAT amount of covereage. Not really.

You probably forgot what the "E" in ESPN stands for. What they have is comedians acting (poorly??) as sports anchors.

I guess I should not be surprised that we are getting shafted on coverage seeing how ESPN has chosen the dumbest possible girl to do the interviews for the games. I hate that. I'm sick of the substandard treatment the networks are giving this sport. I find it insulting that we have to scrounge around for information while even little league gets more coverage than we do.

Based on what? The only thing the news shows have a duty to report is what their advertisers tell them they'd like to see.

But you're treating the WNBA like it's a stand-alone entity.

If MLS were funded by the NFL, you'd see a butt-load of coverage.

If you're referring to Veronica Paysse, MLS chose her, not ESPN.

Why would they pick her? She's so stupid she only makes a fool of herself. I mean she's a good looking girl and she is hispanic but so what. She makes us look like we can't afford a professional.

I was surprised to see a local channel here in Boston show Rev's highlights on saturday night. They also showed Harvard football highlights. I don't know which was more surprising.
