If your team has a unoriginal, copy-cat Euro Name, you needn't apply to join MLS because we already have an abundant of these crappy names stinking up the league already, thank you. Instead, fans should demand that they be given a voice and help these know-nothing corporate hacks think of a traditional American style name that won't drive new fans away and won't make immigrants laugh at us with the intensity they have in the past. PLEASE PEOPLE! The future of MLS is in your hands! Don't let it be swept away in a typhoon of ignorance and unoriginality.
I agree with the first poster. It's a disgrace that so many MLS teams ripped their names off from European teams. Like the LA Galaxy, who blatantly ripped off the Frankfurt Galaxy football club. Not only did LA choose a lame and unoriginal Euro-poseur moniker, but they chose to pay homage to an NFL Europe team! So they didn't even imitate the right sport! It's an embarrassment!
Meh.. even the World League of American Football has better names! Amsterdam Admirals (1995–2007) Barcelona Dragons (1991–1992, 1995–2003) Berlin Thunder (1999–2007) Birmingham Fire (1991–1992) Cologne Centurions (2004–2007) Frankfurt Galaxy (1991–1992, 1995–2007) Hamburg Sea Devils (2005–2007) London/England Monarchs (1991–1992, 1995–1997, 1998) Montreal Machine (1991–1992) New York/New Jersey Knights (1991–1992) Ohio Glory (1992) Orlando Thunder (1991–1992) Raleigh–Durham Skyhawks (1991) Rhein Fire (1995–2007) Sacramento Surge (1991–1992) San Antonio Riders (1991–1992) Scottish Claymores (1995–2004) ANY of those names are a hell of a lot better than adding another generic FC to the league or another United. Hopefully more teams copy off the World Football League because MLS have been absolutely useless at creating interesting names for their franchises and I'm dreading the possibility of Bayern Atlanta and Barca Miami.
