This will mark the first season in half a decade in which United will not have any Argentines on the roster.(Barring a Christian Gomez trade, preseason signing, etc.)

And what we also need are good talent evaluators.

we just need more players who play with pride, respect for the badge.

don't care what nationality they are, even if i like south americans better than europeans.

bah, there's too many variables; how do they handle a new league, a new team, living in the US, the physicality of MLS...

or you can go the Peter Angelos route. Angelos hates taking chances, so when he wants a player it's got to be a player of proven talent in the major leagues...and not a year or two of proven talent, an extended track record. Problem is, by the time you prove your talent over the long term, your probably past your prime, so he pays too much for over the hill players (Albert Belle?).

You want a failsafe player? Okay, Ronnie O'Brien, Chris Klein, Eddie Lewis, Christian Gomez...we know they can do it in MLS. What could go wrong.

I don't care if the players we have are pink and from Antarctica. They need to have skill and play their brains out.

I am going to be very, very, very quick to unload some profanity-laced invective if this team sucks the big suck this season.

In fact, there is no grace period. I want them to bring it from Game 1, or they are going to hear it from the quiet side.

When I wrote the title, I meant there are no more Argentines on United, not to avoid them in the future. I worded it a little funny.

It's like what Lanky134 always said about Amado Guevara when he played against DC...

Like Che, he was killed by Bolivians.

I can't believe that only Martinez is left (or did I hear he was loaned out too?) from the group of five South Americans we added last winter (Gallardo, Neill, Peralta, Martinez and the goalie - forget his name at the moment). What a waste of roster spots and of course money. Yes, something had to be done after two consecutive flameouts in the playoffs to make us deeper and more athletic, but getting rid of Gomez for Gallardo absolutely killed us. Nevermind that he was injured most of the year, but when he played he had no passion and all he could do was send long passes to Emilio or Jaime which is not the type of forwards they are. DC has always been about passion on the pitch and possession. We are not a play it over the top team, we just don't have the speed. Gallardo does not fit the possession model we have like Gomez did. Gomez worked his tail off during games, could dribble, pass, shoot and would defend far more than Gallardo. To me Gallardo was a poor man's Etcheverry.

I'd like to see us get Gomez back (although may not have much left in the tank) along with getting some more athleticism for the back and our outside wings. We really missed Gros and Olsen for their two way play and gritty work rates. Not to mention needing a solid, athletic keeper that does the little things right.

Wow... you seriously need to stop talking out of your ass.

That has to be the most flawed assessment of Gallardo I've ever seen.
