Everyday they mention local teams that play that night but never ever they mention the RB's, I think it's time to drop some emails to let them know we exist (and we have more fans than the nets or islanders..) will do my part. www.wnyc.org
people don't really go to NPR for sports anyway. The fact that games/scores are updated on WFAN is much better. ........Now, if only they got a host that knows what they're talking about
Maybe we can get some answers from the investigative pimp cosplayer that people see as a legitimate source of information for some reason. See, he'll dress as a prostitute this time, place the camera in a secret location, and wait for the Executive president or whoever to talk about why they hate soccer. And then we call them out on having an opinion of something thats different then ours in a private setting! It's a fullproof plan! Oh, wait a minute. Silly me I forgot, I don't care if NPR talks about RBNY!
I was surprised when 1010 WINS broadcasted live score updates of the Toronto/RBNY away match last season. I was recording the game while I ran around the city doing errands and when I tuned in for traffic info they spoiled the outcome for me. I think more people listen to 1010 WINS than NPR.
Um, yes they do. I listen to WNYC daily and most weekdays after a Red Bulls game, the morning edition announcer, Soterius Johnson, gives the score. Hardly ever any gloss on it, like with other sports -- i.e., he'll say "Jeter with an 8th inning home run to win the game" but never "a 65th minute penalty kick by Juan Pablo Angel -- but I'll take it. Of course, it's different if there's a Saturday game, as there's less local coverage and more national coverage on Sunday morning, but I've heard it there too.
I listen from monday to friday and never any mention of RB when they play during the week and yes, Liberty gets mentioned. It doesn't matter if you listen or not , you should care.
Good idea. Everyone should absolutely contact every media station (there is another thread we have called TV Ratings where the other links to those media stations exist). Everyone here should stop just talking about whether NPR or another station is where coverage is best and just contact any media station. Any place will help. Those finding Red Bulls on the internet already know about the team. Where is the link on the site to contact them regarding something like this? I went to the NPR site and it is not clear where to send a comment on this. If you can let me know, I will send a comment although I will keep on looking.
this is the only thing i can find: For listener inquiries, call (646) 829-4000 or email listenerservices@wnyc.org I speak of NPR but your right, most media here is not very good with it.
According to the NY Times sports calendar we don't even have a game this week. We are completely irrelevant.
Thank you. I just sent them a message asking them to mention the Red Bulls game tomorrow in their news cast along with their mention of the other sports teams. Now, this may not do anything, but the more people who speak up the better chance it will. Again, go to the TV Ratings thread for all the other media contacts. Numbers work.
We will guarantee being irrelevant if all we do is complain on this website instead of sending emails to the media stations. This is a fact as the local papers and radio stations, etc. give that as one of big reasons why they don't give soccer more attention. Someone had mentioned on this site last year that NFL and other fans of the 3 major sports complain when stations such as ESPN give any coverage to soccer even suggesting that they switch the channel when soccer comes on. That person stated that the station gave that as a reason not to cover soccer. I don't know if that was true. Let's assume it is true as it is possible. If true, it is an example that complaining works. Many people here obviously care, we just need to spend a couple of minutes each sending our comments and complaints.
I think this might have been caused by the TV issue. The Asbury Park Press didn't have the Red Bulls on their schedule either, but they did all of last year. I'll give them all one week, then the emails will fly.
NJ 101.5 never mentions soccer scores, despite the team playing in the state that they the station uses in the name (and they give scores of every other major league team named "New York", so it's not that).
1010 news mentioned every ny/nj teams and that includes mlb spring training and no mention of the home opener. this is they're list: # Sports * Jets * Giants * Yankees * Mets * Knicks * Nets * Rangers * Devils * Islanders
I thought about emailing them. I flipped the paper over a few times looking for an email but after about a minute I admit I got lazy and gave up. The sad thing is they had a large article with pictures in the very same paper about Charlie Davies comeback and playing for DC United. Its a sad state of affairs when the Times can do a full multi page piece on an MLS player but fail to mention the Red Bulls have a season opener the following day.
