no love for quintanilla??

I really wasn't impressed by Eliseo last year. I thought he was slow and usually showed pretty poor first touch. But the reports are saying he's much better this year. I hope so - after this preseason, I'm starting to think we could use every bit of help we can get.

I still think Q2 is more of a central midfield type, not an out and out forward.

Last year, I thought he showed some good stuff. None of which was speed. I hope this can be attributed to being out of phase in terms of training, and we'll see a quicker Q2 this season.

I don't think Q2 would hang around MLS too long if he still displays his glacier like speed.

 

Last season I thought that Eliseo was the slowest player in the history of MLS, by a wide margin. AJ Wood, Geoff Aunger, Mark Watson, Jeff Agoos, Bruce Arena, Mike Mejido: all these men and boy were faster than Eliseo.

Ray's proposed "system" of 9:1 would doom the leaden footed Eliseo to being the most useless DC player since Mike Huwiler.

That being said, the guy looked markedly faster and really quite impressive in our open practice a few weeks back. I see him being a good central midfielder when he gets some legs and learns to play d. No chance of him getting in up top unless he gets significantly faster still. No place in Ray's "system" for slow forwards.

I really like Eliseo. I'm glad DC picked him up and I hope we don't let him go anytime soon. The thing I liked most about him was that he actually shot the ball. There were so many times when we got down near the goal and lost the ball trying to find an open shot. Eliseo would actually shoot. He didn't rack up many goals, but he did a great game against the Earthquakes in San Jose.

I think when DC picked him up, the thought was that he would get very limited playing time last year until he settled in and got use to playing in MLS. Unfortunately, our injured list got a little long and Eliseo was thrown into the fire as soon as he got here (much to the pleasure of the Salvadorean community).

He was very slow last year which is why I think he has fallen to the bottom of the forward chart. But I think Q2 is more of a midfielder that is getting time at forward. That why he is low on the list.

 

gotta agree on most of that above. Q2 was slow and nasty and certainly never got in sync with the team or the league. i have to say he looks a different class of player this year is the open practice is to judge. he also has had his moments according to match reports in the preseason.

i'd also agree he seems more a midfielder, though he an chino may both be the only players ever slower than mark watson. christ, even the damn beer man at rfk shows up faster than than either of them.

having q2 is sorta like getting some floor mats thrown in when you buy a car. nice to have, add a nice touch, but not really all the important. he is relatively skillful and is nice to have, but i'd trade him for a journeyman dmid with better speed.

 

Don't discount Curtis

Curtis is a great player. He had five goals (I think) last year, and he was given only limited playing time.

He looked great in the open practice, and he's great for DC's depth chart. Personally, I'd put him ahead of Q2 even after I watched the open practice. Q2 isn't consistent - he disappears for long amounts of time and doesn't finish. On the otehr hand, Curtis has everything to lose, and takes his chances seriosly.

I was at the DC-Galaxy game last year in LA (one of the first games of the season). Convey got an early red, but DC kept the game close. Curtis was a late sub, and took the ball from around mid-field, juked to defenders and slotted one in. It was the most impressive DC goal I saw all season hands down.
