PSV decided "let's make everyone go to WhatsApp to see the full lineup" --

But he is back and on the bench.

  2. Sergiño Dest says in conversation with the Eindhovens Dagblad that he can be admired again in the Philips Stadium next season. The international of the United States says he is not working on a transfer. Dest had to rehabilitate a large part of this season from a serious knee injury. Now he is recovered and ready to return to his old level. "I'll stay at PSV next season, that's at least one hundred percent certain," he says. The full-back had a great debut season at PSV, but suffered a serious knee injury in the last few weeks, which forced him to postpone a return to the European top. "Yes, other clubs from abroad inquired a lot with my agent. But I wanted to focus on the championship with PSV."

He got 15 sub minutes last outing. Big game today. Critical for PSV if they want to have any hope of capitalizing on Ajax' tipsy stagger to the end of the season. My guess is he gets sub mins again, but could start given the importance of the game, I guess.

Any concerns about Dest have been laid to rest. Greatly influenced tilting the field for PSV.

PSV came back to win 3-2 over Feyenoord. (Sorry @feyenoordsoccerfan). The table has them now 1 point back from Ajax in 1st, with a huge goal difference advantage for PSV with 2 matches to go.

Yeah... he really did make a difference from the get-go. Richie is a nice player and all but when Dest is on he is a serious weapon. He had one minor meh moment on D to start his sub appearance but then locked it down and starting marauding thru the MF. It was really nice to see.

What a comeback.... but I just assumed it would be too little too late for PSV when it came to winning the Eredivisie again this season given AJAX had a 4 point lead going into Match Day 32 and they seemed like heavy favorites in two of their final three games. But losing 3-0 to NEC? Yikes. You would think they would also easily dispatch Groningen mid-week.... but they are higher up the table than NEC. But now that last game against Twente is looking huge... they just took out the in-form Utrecht 2-0. Pretty sure AJAX gets to play this one at home though... so that should help.... but if PSV wins out (which seems likely) and AJAX gets even one draw in the final two games then PSV would win based on GD. That would be nuts.

It's an odd turn of events, because the race was 'decided' on March 30, when Ajax visited PSV and Ajax won 0-2. Instead of a tight 3-point margin (had PSV won), with seven pressure-packed matches to close the season, Ajax had pushed their lead to 9 points, a comfortable margin. Not quite easy street, but almost.

Since then, PSV have won five in a row, 15/15 points; while Ajax won their next two but since have stumbled to two bad losses and a draw, 7/15 points. Now we have a title race, with two matches left:

    Wednesday
    PSV v Heracles (T-10th)
    Ajax @ Groningen (T-10th)

    Sunday
    PSV @ Sparta Rotterdan (T-10th)
    Ajax v Twente (5th)

I think PSV are going to win out and I assume that AJAX will handle Groningen... but Twente could really cause problems for AJAX in the last game.... Yes... AJAX is playing at home.... but Twente must be feeling very confident after dispatching what was a relatively hot Utrecht side this past weekend. Clean sheet to boot... 2-0. All Twente likely has to do to play spoiler is earn a draw against AJAX and PSV would likely win the league based on GD. This should be a very interesting end to the season.

  11. The Eredivisie topscorer is on the Twente Squad and he's a player of Feyenoord next season and he's on the way to match or even overtake the Ajax legend Litmanen's record of goals scored by a midfielder.
So two huge reasons to wack Ajax in the Arena. A third reason as a Twente player for their fans is that Twente a couple of years ago was leading the chart with 1 or 2 points ahead of Ajax and all they needed was a draw in the Arena in the last match of the season. They were beaten and lost the title. So for Twente fans it would be a huge joy if they could wack the title aspiration of Ajax in the Arena in the last match of the season.

Dest starts! PSV hosting Heracles, PSV needing a win to keep pressure on Ajax.

Tillman with 2 1st half goals as PSV cruising toward a 4-1 win, but Ajax doing just enough so far (not over yet) with a 2-1 lead v. Groningen.

Malacia came on for Dest at the half, but Bosz also took off Perisic with PSV up 4-0 so it's likely more saving some players than any injury issue.

The table has a new leader, with one match remaining.

13' of added time in the Ajax match allowed Groningen to square things up at 2-2, the tying goal coming at 90+9' - another great example of extending the match indefinitely until the home team scores. And no, I don't know the particulars here, but it happens so often.

Well it looks like at 90+3 Groningen went down a man, so that is some inconsistent refereeing favoritism (and then why play 4 more minutes after the equalizer). Utrecht and Sparta just went 90+18...

Sounds as though you're unclear on the concept ... until the home team scores. Ultimately, there has to be a limit, and 18' is a lot of time (but Utrecht never scored to break a 1-1 tie). Groningen got another 4 minutes to find a winner, but also note it's bad form by the referee to call the match immediately after a score.

The Ajax meltdown continues. They had such a poor start, managed to right the ship - with a bit of help from PSV - and now look to hand Eindhoven the title. Bros gonna riot at the ArenA.

The whole thing is friggin nuts. I thought it was completely over when AJAX beat PSV in their last match up. But when AJAX lost 3-0 to a lower table side last week (NEC) you had to expect the pressure to be on. They go up twice against another lower table side and then a red card has them facing 10 in stoppage and BAM! Wow. PSV now controls it's own destiny. Crazy.

I posted something back in January or thereabout when Ajax clawed back into the league lead that they were fully capable of screwing it up - but even as pessimistic as I was, I never imagined this level of choke.

  21. Well, it's up to the family Steijn how the league ends on sunday.
Will Sem kill the Ajax aspirations or will daddy Steijn end those of PSV.
I can see a dramatic roller coaster in which in the end both Ajax and PSV are beaten.
Would be great entertainment for the rest of us, not being Ajax or PSV minded:D

That's what happens when your most important midfielder is back in the saddle. It's no accident that PSV's stumbles started when Tillman got injured and stopped when he returned: they were way too easy to play through on the counter and missing decisive early goal chances, now they're not.

Dest coming back in time adds a lot - in both directions - but Malik has been decisive

This is true, but Ajax was firmly in control of their own destiny after the PSV win. They've since given up points to Groningen, NEC and Sparta.

Today's games are on. Nearing HT and PSV and Ajax are both clinging to a 1-0 lead, Feyenie down 1-0 and Utrecht tied. PSV just has to win out and they repeat.

Dest starts in the Ledezma position, btw. Tillman starts also. Ritchie on the bench.

Sparta managed to make it interesting for literally 5 minutes, but LdJ put PSV back on top, Tillman seals the deal with a beauty of a full run "half-volley" and PSV win 3-1.

This comeback squeaker Eredivisie title has such a different feel than last year’s runaway domination. But congrats to PSV and their YAs. And encouraging to see Dest go the full 90 in the decisive match!
