From today's Athletic interview, on Dest's time at Milan:

“I was doing double sessions, extra work on the training ground and then I had personal trainers outside,” he explains. “I was working on my passes, fitness, and strength. I had the time to do it and do it without factoring in getting sore after games and that recovery.

“It was even looking at my diet. Obviously, if you don’t play that much, you still burn a lot (of energy) in training but I cut down my carbs. I didn’t feel the need for them to be as high. After a couple of days, it was hard, but I got used to it.”

It's evident that he's much happier at PSV. Thanks, Earnie!

Dest the only one of the 3Ami-gos! predicted to start today. Nothing official yet however.

It's actually being played in the original "America" now which is a good thing.

On the one hand, Sergino is right. On the other hand, I'm totally psyched for it to be here. So :p

The word America as a place was first attached to South America.

I don't think that's right. While Amerigo Vespucci only explored SA, the first map that used the word "America" included representations of both NA and SA.

The word "America" as to attached to a country was first used by the USA, and is now the only country that uses it.

He shouldn't get shit for it. I agree. It should be in SA, but money talks.

I don’t think that’s an apples to apples comparison. The U.S. is in the Americas. South America doesn’t have an exclusive claim to such a tournament just because that’s what they named it.

Having said that, I don’t want this to be a situation where the U.S. only plays if it’s in the U.S., or the U.S. starts to host it every time or even every other time. I’d like to see us become permanent competitors in the tournament, but I also want our players to have that experience of playing important games in South America, and I don’t want to screw with the tradition of it too much (from what I understand, Mexico used to participate regularly so it’s not an exclusively conmebol event). Maybe have every 4th Copa or so in the U.S.

The problem with guest teams at Copa has usually been that the guests can't get players released for the tourney. NTs that are going to have an issue facing CONMEBOL's best are weaker than their possible top team in an already tough tourney.

The US was asked mot to come back

Isn’t the Copa America tournament traditionally run/owned by CONMEBOL which by FIFA’s definition (and Spanish acronym) consists of countries south of Panama? Has something changed with that? If it is still a CONMEBOL tourney then Dest’s analogy seems spot on. Or let’s have the CONCACAF Gold Cup in Peru next time. Why not?

Why should it be in SA? It’s played every two years. Way too often. It’s more interesting to change it up and play with both continents.

I like that it's played with both continents, but it's a CONMEBOL tournament and it's also boring that other than the WC (except '26 of course) the US is always hosting tournaments. I'd rather see us play big games in SA to "change it up."

Kind of odd to see that from an active player. You’d think a major tournament on home soil would be the type of opportunity players would relish.

Odd to call it “boring” but I’ll enjoy attending games while I’m sure the rest of you will be boycotting this “boring” tournament.

Maybe he sees it from the S. American fans perspective instead of the FIFA elitist perspective.
