B/c I find baseball to be the worst sport going. Where else can you spend 4 hours watching 10 minutes of action?
A DC United soccer game? 0-0 anybody? I think you'll find a lot of fans of sports other than the "one true sport" here on BigSoccer, and I, for one, tend to immediately discount the posts and opinions of those that use terms like helmetball and boreball. I don't care for American football, but I respect the fact that others do. Just say "baseball". We complain all day that nobody gives soccer any respect, yet it's okay for us to denigrate the sports we don't like.
Look Andy - I don't give a crap what you think and never asked you for your opinion in this matter now did I? I can use whatever frickin' term I want for baseball. I find it boring. I don't give a shit if you love it. It is everyone's opinion on what sports they like and what they call them. Take your holier than thou crap back to Durham, ok?
Agreed, let's not all act like Frank Deford and just rip THE SPORT for no reason, if you want to call Peter Angelos the "Angel of Endless Washington Misery" fine... But let's not sink to the levels of the bashers themselves... I happen to love soccer, hockey, and even baseball although I don't cheer for anyone until WE (WASHINGTON) gets a team. I am also a diehard Ohio State football fan. The only sport I don't really like is basketball. But that isn't the point. Many many of us here like or love other sports as well, and there is no need for ripping any other sports when all we really need to do is stick together supporting soccer and NOT ripping anything else.... except the Metros.
Well this is a message board, and I'm welcome to spread my message. It's jerks like you that continue to give soccer-bashers the ammunition they need. If you don't want my opinions, use your Ignore list.
What's actually funny about this thread and your post Andy is that I scripted it in my head before reading it. I looked at the title of the thread, say your name as the last post, then said, "hmm, I bet I know what he just posted." It's kind of sad when you become so predictable, no? I was just hoping that you would have said something to the effect of, "yeah, screw that boreball crap...who needs a bunch of overpaid, greedy, slovenly, drug-taking, whiny halfletes standing on dirt at RFK." There's always next time... Tim
Back on topic - you have a problem with me, Andy or who ever take it to PMs. Now - DC and the Freedom are the sole occupants of RFK again for '03 Discuss
If United and the Freedom are the sole occupants AGAIN, I'd like to see a little better treatment from the DC Sports Commision. And I'm talking minor stuff like trash cans in Lot 8 and some Port-a-Pottys. A little bit better food at the concessions, stuff like that. Nothing earth shattering. Just a little respect, you know?
Boreball... Boreball... Boreball... No boreball at the football stadium for the Black and Red! No boreball at the football stadium for the Black and Red!
Trash cans? Port-a-Pottys? Man, they put a whole darn RIVER there for your convenience and use in the above activities...what more do you want? And as a bonus they gave you some pleasant aromas!
I have no problems with you at all. I just pointed out that I dislike derogatory terms like "boreball," then you got all pissy about it, so I got all pissy right back. I don't really have anything else to add to the debate, so I don't see the need for PMs.
Good news. It sure was crappy during the Vasco da Gama game when the baseball configuration had messed the stadium up like that. I like baseball. I haven't really watched it since the last strike and since the guys started getting a little bit too cranked on steroids. It would be nice to even get a major league team in the area. But, not at RFK.
2 Things that why soccer kicks As s. We don't stop a game cause it drizzles. We don't a game cause it's tied and theres a golden goal to be played.
This is terrible news--and I hate baseball. It's terrible for several reasons. 1. Now the stadium authority will give DCU a lease for 2003--and then hedge. B/c they want to see if the Expos move. And then.... 2. No action will be taken on a SSS now and until a possible baseball team locates to RFK. Why? One option is the team moves to RFK and a stadium is built in NoVA. Problem is, it's difficult to keep that space. So another option being floated (and being pushed by the Stadium Authority) is to... build a park specifically for baseball next to RFK. I think they were talking about a parking lot. 3. Doesn't matter if baseball never comes to DC. The point is that as long as that is an option, Stadium Authority and Bobbie Goldwater won't give DCU a long-term lease (and the ability to dictate dates to a baseball team) as long as that is an option. And they won't OK development of a SSS on RFK grounds (parking lot or not) until it is clear a baseball team won't consider that option (and that might take awhile--a team could move in 2004 or 2005 and not decide on the new stadium location until 2006 or 2007). So that means that DCU is held hostage by baseball. It would suck big time if baseball had been in RFK in 2003. But you know what? As soon as that was decided, AEG would be breaking ground for a SSS somewhere. But that won't happen as long as RFK is available and there is a chance of building next to RFK. But we won't know if those are options until baseball is resolved. Best option for DCU: if baseball had voted to contract the Expos. Now that won't happen. Second best option: find out if they're going to move and where ASAP!!! And then make a decision on where their stadium is going to be ASAP (b/c they won't stay in RFK for more than 2-5 years).
