[Not Necessarily Galaxy-Related] in case you were wondering...

I wasn't sure where the best place was to discuss the World Cup and I desperately needed a place to post this, so I could say "Nice to see the Earthquakes represented"...

I had high expectations for the Portugal-Spain match to be exciting and it did not disappoint.

Ronaldo is such a douche. So frustrating to watch him dive his way to a tie.

That said... that was one hell of a free kick.

I thought that both the penalty and free kick were legit fouls.

He sold the fouls but I'm actually okay with that - if you don't then they typically go unpunished.

That said, I'm 100% for using post-game video reviews for punishing clear dives. And indeed, violent conduct.

You have to respect the man. Given the level of opponent and competition, I've rarely seen such an impressive individual performance.

What about Tim Howard parrying 20,000 speculative long shots against Belgium at the last World Cup?

Well sure, if you want to get cynical you can ask those kinds of questions:

Shouldn't a goalie stop a moderately hit 20 yard shot at a comfortable height?

What happened to Jurgen Klinsmann's new playing philosophy, proactive style and technical approach?

Julian Green was on loan in the German division... didn't Bryan Jordan play there the same year?

But what good does that do? And who answers? Robert Downey Jr? Does he even watch soccer? I simply don't know.

And at the end of the day, isn't that the point?

Is this where we discuss the games? Works for me.

I've been so busy with work haven't had time to get on here much. But I stopped in to say I thoroughly enjoyed watching Spain play - they are incredible at moving the ball around. You'd think they were a club team spending every week together. Hard done by Ronaldo, though.

Spain Portugal was rivetting - drama, fabulous play. Spain loses their coach but it doesn't matter, they know exactly what they want to do out there. Agree that Ronaldo made that foul happen, but Diego Costa fouled his way to one of his goals as well. Soccer is so difficult to officiate. The screamer goals, and off the posts, and wow, keep it up, World Cup.

The best goal from the game was Nacho's volley.

    Well-managed by Iceland.

Actually controlled the ball well in transition.

Interesting that the announcers laid into Pogba despite him scoring and making the pass that led to France's penalty, yet Messi misses a penalty, made a number of turnovers and was horrible on freekicks and doesn't get half the criticism.

OMG, the announcers for Peru Denmark are so amusing. From Aerosmith reference to pronouncing Ajax like the cleanser. The atmosphere for this game is incredible, and end to end action. The Danish fans hats. :)
