Hello all..... this was presented to me by one of my friends and COMPLETELY stumped me.

My friend showed me a photo of a game at yankee stadium and simply asked "Tell me what year this is, and narrow it down to an exact date on that
year's yankee schedule." He gave the picture to me, and considering myself a yankee trivia buff, I figured 'no problem'.

I studied the picture carefully. I researched rosters. I researched yankee schedules. I studied each and every part of this picture down to its
smallest detail. I finally asked my friend, "you're pulling my leg.. there is no answer to this at all." and he said "So you give up?" I say "yes, I do!" figuring I was calling his bluff. He showed me the exact clues to figure out how to narrow it down to an exact date, and an exact year.

Obviously, you're going to need to find where to get a yankee schedule from years past. If you have lots of the magazines they sell in the stadiums with the scorecards, and have collected them over the years, this should be
    no problem.

Next, you just look at the photo. All I can say is you *will* rack your brain trying to figure this one out. However, I will give no clues. All I
will do is take answer submissions and tell you if you're right or wrong. And trust me, IF you get the answer, it will be something you'll brag about,
but never tell the answer to

    here is the picture:

As you can see, i had to put it together from alot of different scans, because it is quite large. But I looked at the scanned image - you can still garner enough information from it to determine the correct answer.

Having said that, good luck, but don't ask me for clues, because my friend never gave me any

PS - the scanned photo is rather large.. about 2mb. be patient with the
    download.

I think the "easy-out rolling seats" system was introduced in the Caravan '96.

My first guess is that the picture (overall) is fake. By the time Adidas was sponsoring the team (check the ads over the bleachers and on the 1st base side tarp), cigarette advertising had been banned in outdoor stadiums (there seems to be a Marlboro ad all the way to the right). There's also no centerfielder, although perhaps that's a clue.

That being said, if my conspiracy theory paranoia has failed me once again, I'd say you book nerd Yankee fans could narrow it down by researching the yardage in the outfields, which was changed a few years back, or the 3rd base coaches number, or if you're a lunatic, enlarge the image to figure out the order of the flags atop the rear facade of the stadium, which always reflects the current pennant race.

    1999: 5/14,15,or16; 9/21,22,or23
    1998: 6/1 or 2, 7/24,25, or 26
    1997: 4/25,26, or 27; 6/10 or11
    1996: 5/2,3,4, or 5; 8/6 or 7

    Take your pick.

A baseball mathematical brain teaser for math whizzes:

A ball hit to right field landed near the foul line. The distance from the point where the ball landed to first base is exactly half the distance from the same point to second base, and exactly one-third the distance from the same point to third base. Did the ball land fair or foul based on that information? A mathematical solution is required.

I would guess the later dates because I think the NY behind home plate was put there in 1998.

3rd base coach (#30) is Willie Randolph, who moved from 1st to 3rd around then, as well, when Mazzilli joined the club.

Looking at the results of those games doesn't give away anything, either (I'm not going to look for the linescores). Even in the games the Yankees lost to Chicago they scored two or more runs.

Dimensions have been 314 down the line since 1988 and 385 in right-center since 1976, so that's not a giveaway, either

As for the center-fielder, he's probably shifted closer to left since Bernie is batting right-handed. According to the Diamond Vision, Bernie has 11 hits in his last 31 ABs, so it was probably sometime in June or July, which is when he traditionally breaks out of his early-season slump.

It appears to be a night game (dusk in only the third inning) so you can likely rule out 7/26/98 and 5/16/99, because they were Sundays (unless ESPN televised it).
