I can’t see the league lasting past this year.

To be fair, West Germany was a little busy with other things from its founding in 1949 until then. :)

Quite doubtful, because most NPSL teams are in the NPSL because they can only afford that. The small handful of clubs that have moved up....well, we can talk about Chattanooga if we like, but they haven't actually won anything or built a new stadium or drawn like Albuquerque or anything. The biggest success stories would be Detroit (well-financed) and Oakland (somehow well-financed, apparently.)

I always used to say that the NPSL was for people who weren't quite ambitious enough to be in the PDL (when it was the PDL). Just reducing "clutter" is not a reason to put clubs where they are unlikely to be successful.

History tells us that it's a big leap from amateur to pro, and very few have made it successfully.

As for alcohol, it's not easy to get a liquor license. And just inhabiting a venue that has the ability to offer alcohol does not mean you're going to get a significant piece of that revenue.

Look, here's the deal with the NISA:
1 - It's really hard to do this.
2 - It's harder to do it when you have no money.
3 - It's even harder to do it when you not only have no money, but you believe you don't need money. The magic of sporting merit and pure competition and all that bullshit doesn't pay bills.

Decry USSF standards all you like, but they're designed to keep riff-raff out. USSF - which, as was noted above, has been more than patient with the special needs leagues and teams - is seeing the effects of not being draconian about this.

It's not about stifling competition. That's the conspiracy theory bullshit that fanboys like to peddle because it's somehow easier for them to believe. It's about making sure you don't have leagues and teams doing nonsense like not paying the g-d officials and getting to January without knowing who's going to be able to play this year.

Excellent points. The only response I will give is that there are exceptions to the League 2/NPSL ambition levels, but those are mostly when said League 2 teams are set up as a pinnacle team for a youth org (I'm likely noticing this because I'm living this here in NE Ohio - Cleveland SC and Akron City of the NPSL have much more sophisticated fan-facing gameday ops than the Cleveland Force of USL-2, but the former are in the senior team business while the latter is in the youth soccer biz.).

Also, extrapolating from the quote in my sig, it's important to remember that American soccer is, well, American and that many aspects of the game, most notably the business model, will follow American norms, not European/rest of the world.

In a seriousness I knew this would happen . When all do is make grandiose plans about “ independent clubs” and “pro/ rel “ and whiiinkng about the old instead of vetting owners and trying to make your league viable this is what happens

The Flower City Union and Syracuse Pulse joining forces!? The poop show continues in a league that, according to its followers, is stable enough to introduce and sustain the beautiful concept of pro/rel.

So, Cal United Strikers FC and LA Force are going to suffer the same fate as Bay Cities FC?

By the way, would anyone want to place a bet on how long the Savannah Clovers FC will last in NISA before it folds or self-relegates to the amateur leagues like Chicago House Athletic Club did?

NISA figureheads once said by 2023 they expect to reach 18 teams, or at least that's what their 2022 media guide included.

Guess the 1 was a typo.

The Cosmos (directly or indirectly) are going to kill another league aren't they?

Doogh do you need to blame the Cosmos for everything? Their time participating in NISA is over. Rocco is running Fiorentina and that has ALL of his attention and rightly so. So the question is, why are you so hung up on NISA/Cosmos' past? Are you belittling the Cosmos to get Rocco to lower the price so that you can get them on the cheap and show everyone how to "do it right"? As if anything other that survival in <D1 is easy! What is happening in NISA for the last few years is all NISA, focus my friend.

What is the status of the Cosmos? Last heard they were on hiatus from NISA. However, their website is still live (mainly posting about former players passing.)

I believe they’re in purgatory. Rocco seems to have lost interest in the team, but at the same time doesn’t want to sell the IP.

Is that lawsuit still going on ? I've not seen any updates in ages and just assumed it had finally gotten thrown out. Man, it's worse than Jarndyce vs. Jarndyce

Yes, I'm told that the jury selection will begin later on this year.
