The franchise fee for USL-C is now over $10 million. The other expenses to start can be up to $10 million depending on the stadium situation. USL League One (3rd division) is reported to cost $3 to $7 million to get started.
I can't see the college draft going away completely. The country is too big for academies to completely cover an there are also foreign players who pursue US college soccer.
Championship is $12 million, up from $1 million in 2015. League One expansion fee was $2 million last time I read up on it.
Knights Who Say NISA @KnightsWhoNISA 15h received word that on the @ChattanoogaFC owner's call this week, the board rep said CFC is committed to playing in NISA for 2023. No mention of beyond that or if other opportunities are being explored.
-------------------- If NISA finally dies a slow death, CFC would be in a pickle. USL-1 already in Chattanooga with its own SSS. Could CFC jump to USL-C? Could they merge resources with the USL-1 team (doubtful) or would they relocate or simply go out of business?
--------------------- Kind of forgot about them, they are probably more stable than NISA at this point
Well, another team in the NISA has bit the dust: Per NISA's website (sorry, not a big tech junkie). CHICAGO (August 26, 2022) – Today the National Independent Soccer Association announced Bay Cities FC suspended operations for the balance of the 2022 season due to financial constraints. Bay Cities home match versus Cal United Strikers set for this weekend has been canceled. NISA and the club are now focused on finding a new primary team owner. “We are definitely disappointed that Bay Cities FC needed to make this decision,” said NISA Commissioner John Prutch. “This is difficult for everyone across the NISA landscape.” NISA has revised the 2022 schedule and table with the eight remaining clubs. The competition committee has revised the table to reflect the following: The league is now condensed into a single table The standings have been revised using an average-points per game total (points earned divided by matches played) The results of all Bay Cities FC matches have been left intact The league will complete the season with a single table format. The playoffs still will include the top six clubs with the top two clubs earning a bye. Please direct any media queries to Steve Johnson at stevej@nisasoccer.com.
why isn't this league dead yet? join the NASL and all the alphabet soup of leagues we have ever had. Also, isn't there supposed to be a minimum number of teams for a league to exist?
As long as we have people who think like Steve Juncaj, Rocco Commisso, Robert Palmer, and Peter Wilt, leagues of this kind will continue to exist in the US Soccer Pyramid. I believe 8 is the bare minimum.
From the USSF website, in addition to stadia, financial viability and common standards for all pro leagues, a Div 3 men's league must: have a minimum of 8 teams and U.S.‐based teams must participate in the U.S. Open Cup.
counting new amsterdam and chicago along with the arizona club and now bay cities, plus detroit jumping and Stumptown folding, they have lost six teams in less than a year. yeah, going really, really well bringing pro soccer to every community in america.
The irony of the "bring soccer to every community" thing was that NISA has mostly been secondary/tertiary teams in MLS/USL markets. It's not like they've been filling the gap in places like Cleveland, New Orleans, and Baltimore.
=================== So tell me again, why USSF or whoever is afraid of lawsuits for anti-competition? Is there actually some legal precedence on this? All of this is what is really keeping the USA from having a logical, strong , top to bottom pyramid. And in my world, it should be 2 completely different pyramid- professional and amateur. This process of everyone, everywhere doing there own thing hurts the game in this country and fans, thus this is why fans get frustrated as well.
I don't think logical pyramid of any sort is ever going to happen. I think those are the top like it this way. From my perspective, parent if an 04 boy, I just want to see a few, several paths for development beyond u19 and alternative to college. Is college ball any good for anyone besides dudes already on the radar? Anyway... I think these lower tier brands and teams can only get traction if they find a way to actively partner with the local soccer communities and get butts in seats. Soccer families don't go to watch soccer. If your a high school boy why would you not be going to check out usl2, usl-c, or upsl??? I think these kids are burnt and brainwashed by parents thinking they gotta get to college soccer and that's the end plan. Same for the girls. Take your kid out to a local semi pro game of any sort of college games. Total eye opener. I am currently getting an up close and personal with usl2 and upsl and it's interesting! These organizations deserve support. But yeah, asses in seats.
Why do you want to have a pyramid? Just because it is easier to understand? Seems pretty clear to me. USSF has standards for Division 1, 2, and 3 professional leagues. Right now MLS is D1 and USL-C is D2. That seems pretty clear. If USL-C wants to become a D1 league its a big hurdle but why shouldn't they be able to do so? USL-1, NISA, and MLS Next Pro are all D3. They aren't moving up or down although NISA might want to try. I don't see any problem with having multiple leagues at the same level. Or is it because you want teams to have mobility up and down? USSF is not going to be able to mandate that. They don't have any desire to do it either. They are a membership organization. They are going to do what the members want. Having teams associated with their choice of league is what most owners want.
no one is ever stoked about litigation except lawyers. that said, why do you think ussf is 'afraid' of fly-by-night leagues making noise that they are going to sue for whatever reason? yes, non-cooperation is a problem in the american system. everybody thinks their idea is the best one. but there are more teams and especially more pro teams than ever in this country's history at this moment. who is being anti-competitive, again?
A couple of new stories of interest: Bay Cities FC ‘pauses operations’ | Local | smdailyjournal.com Tim Tebow Soccer Team — Why Fans In Jacksonville Are Angry (the18.com)
But I thought a league without all those hoops you have to jump through to prove sustainability would be.... viable? Also, Jacksonvile Armada fans can trash the Tebow project all they want. Their anger and blame should be shifted to Robert Palmer. Why? Well, the guy had the money to move the Armada to USLC or USLL1 but instead opted for the NPSL because pro/rel for USA and NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, and even NASCAR.
awwww, the cosplay brigade is upset they're getting a team they don't have to go support if they don't want to, because their collegiate wood bat team is so authentic and has brought nothing but glory to the city. ya boy rp has accomplished precisely nothing he said he was going to do. but by all means, carry on.
By the way, since they won't be in the same league as the Armada, wouldn't being a fan of both be an option?
