Nirvana are my favourite band, virtually the only band I listen to.Kurt was a very deep lyricist and a great songwriter. My favourite song is sappy.

And you gotta be under the age of 21 if you consider Nirvana to be old school.

I think you'll find most people here listened to the Melvins, Pixies and Dinosaur, Jr. (you know, the bands Kurt were influenced by!!!) before you were even in junior high, so show some respect, chief.

Cobain is a crap lyricist. Just compare him to some of the great bands and you will see he sucks.

    Grunge is crap.

Wasn't Nirvana who created the grunge music?

I like Nirvana, but if it weren't for Kurt's death, today they would be just another Ace of Base.

All I'm saying is that Nirvana was never original. It was a media product which just happened to represent the specific average semi-depressed American youth in the early 90's. Kurt's death maintained the mytical aura, which would probably be dissipated if he was alive, because someday the old rebel formula would eventually vanish.

Who put out the commandment, about 6 months ago, to massively increase airplay of Nirvana? Is this some Clear Channel Communications corporate mandate? I can't turn around without hearing them on every station.

This kills me. Nirvana played a style of music that the media labelled grunge. They didn't create "grunge". And Nirvana can't even be really lumped into the same pile as Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains.

    Stupid, stupid, stupid.

One of the greatest bands ever. Top ten easy. Rest in peace Kurt.

Nirvana totally ripped of the Pixies. Just listen to Territorial Pissing, it's the greatest Pixies song not by the Pixies.

Not that they weren't a great band in their own right, but they are greatly overrated. Sonic Youth and the Pixies were more important in terms of body of work and innovation.

It is as much about their impact on the industry and culture as it is about their playing abilitiy, or body of work, or innovation. Maybe even more so as Kurt flat out could not sing and could barely play his guitar.

They were special, and it sucks mightily that we have been deprived of all the albums and great tunes they should have produced over the years. :(

Nirvana were one of the most influencial bands of all time. They influenced a whole generation. Certainly in Scotland they sparked the revival of good rock music. They totally changed the music scene. And hundreds of bands have been hugely influenced by them to this day. If you want a good Scottish example look at Biffy Clyro.

I was about 13 or 14 when I first got into Nirvana. It was the first time I had ever really been a fan of a band and I used to listen to their albums all the time. I was upset when Kurt killed himself and no band has come close since to my liking for Nirvana.

you would have to be a moron not to think that a band was influenced by someone else

that's because music has been around forever, everyone listens to it... it influences us all

they took what they heard and made their own... that's how it has been done since the dawn of man

nirvana was awesome and it would have been incredible to see what they were up to now
