    Per article on mlsnet.com:

Anyone on that list that we should look at? Is Rojas worth a look? I was a little bit surprised to see Flores on that list. He looked pretty good last year for the Mutts. What happened to him? What the hell is Diallo doing on that list? Was he still on their books?!?!?

Keep in mind that we are second to last on the priority list for claiming guys off waivers, so if we picked someone up it would have to be someone no one else wanted or else we'd have to give something up to move up the list.

It's a different Diallo - a young defender who was signed a few weeks ago. I thought Flores looked good at the Olympics but didn't do too much with the Metros (Maybe you're confusing him, as I often did, with Pablo Brenes). Suarez has already rightfully been rejected by the masses on this board. I didn't think Rojas was particularly good when the US played T&T. Brillant is the only other one I've gotten a decent look at, and wasn't too impressed.

What are the odds that a team gets two different Mamadou Diallos?

"Mamadou Diallo" is probably the west African equivalent of "Joe Smith".

You're confusing them again. It was Brenes who looked good at the Olympics and struggled with the club. Gilberto played a few games in the middle of the season, seeming to energize the team. He was great playing the role of d-mid, though he seemed to push out on the right quite a bit too. His season was ended by a hack from current league golden boy Clint Dempsey. He was released because he was never able to be the same player after the injury.

Actually it was Brenes that played in the Olympics for Costa Rica and didnt do much with the Metros. Gilberto, who's Brazilian, played really well for us last year, but now with Lil' Bradley and Lisi taking over that D-mid spot, I guess Bob thought he was expendable. He also came back from injury after Clint Dempsey took him out. Metro fans are really confused by the move because he was a Youth International making league minimum. If anyteam wanted to pick him, he's definitely the best player on the list. A really solid player.

I know the difference between the two players and even I am confused after reading this banter! :p

Eh. I haven't seen this massive confusion about Gilberto being waived from all that many Metros fans. Bradley even said that he just wasn't the same player after the injury. I doubt any team picks him up.

That's a pity. He showed promise last year.

    Bring Noah Palmer home!

I say that solely out of sentimentality . . . DCU is in pretty good shape for GK's I know . . .

And I do believe that Mamdou Diallo is a somewhat common Senegalese(?) name . . .

well, there is another Mamadou Diallo who played for Mali in the Olympics. I think he plays in France somewhere, Metz maybe.

A lot of these teams (such as RSL, Chivas, Metro) are rumored to be making deals: signing players once the transfer window opens, picking up Meola (with a forklift of course), that sort of thing.

The problem for us is that I think our senior roster is full and we want as much cap room as we can get for our AAAA. So not only is it not in our interest to add one of these guys. But we're really talking about subtracting someone from the senior roster aren't we?

We have an open senior roster spot after releasing Q2 and not signing a replacement; however, that open is indeed earmarked for AAAA. San Lorenzo won 3-1 this weekend as witnessed by the DC FO so they will likely be keen to have seen some players of interest - just a question as to what they can afford versus the teams from Spain and Italy who are the usual raiders of talent from the Argie teams.

Not to mention the fact that a third Diallo (Amadou, the one immortalized in the Springsteen song "41 Shots") lived in New York.

Is Mamadou/Amadou Diallo, translated from Senegalese, "John Smith?"
