Re: New Nike Soccer Commercial Yea, I saw it the first time about 2 weeks ago on Fox Sports Channel. They say something else instead of the quoted comment. They something about ". . . real men don't play soccer . . ." My favorite part of the commercial is Adu's spot. He does some stepovers and then volleys off of a spin. I have been trying that, but it is very difficult, of course. It makes me hyped too and I almost want to cry also. Nike does a great job of promoting soccer here. I don't think it is Jim Rome, it doesn't really sound like him. He would be yelling a lot more and sounding like the wussie, high-pitched, hater he is. I was in Dick's Sporting Goods and I saw this dope promotional poster of Freddy Adu in the soccer apparel section. I pleaded with the store associates to give me one (because it is a brand new store). It is about 6 feet high and it is a high-resolution foto of Adu standing there in Dri-Fit training gear with a ball in his hand and he is staring into the camera. You can see freaking sweat beads on him, it is that detailed. He is in some Trainers, those shoes that are new and supposed to be really light and make you feel like you are barefoot. Talk about hype material.
I liked it at first. Liked the intro and the visuals but the damn song sucks. I hate it. I don't know who it appeals to but not me. I prefer the Nike commercials like cantona's "au revoir" or one in 2002 on the boat with elvis music. Nike's ads are second to none. Whoever does them is a genius. But I would like to see them make a soccer ad that is more ummmm....masculine i guess. Nike did some great football & baseball commericals recently. Very simple but very cool where players lime tomlinson pujols urlacher and rothlesburger (sp?) wore these cool masks on their heads. I'd like to see them do a similar commercial for soccer with USMNT players.
it was disgrace to women soccer, in the beginning was said something like, soccer is a man game and let's keep it that way, something like that, it's really against women soccer.
No it didn't, retard, it said "real men don't play soccer" and the whole tone of the ad was mocking that viewpoint. Where do you come up with this stuff?
I'm a female soccer player and a damn good one at that. At first, I too said, "Where are the women US soccer players?" And then I realized that the guy had said, "...real men don't play soccer." So the idea was to show men playing soccer. Nike is a HUGE supporter of women's soccer and if necessary, they would have featured women. Besides, I can't complain about seeing some good looking guys showing off some good looking skills.
i think we saw two different ads ... what i saw was the one that in the last segment of the movie, Adu (or Johnson?) does drible the ball and shot it.
You're right, that song really blows. They should be playing something more in the vein of Saliva's "Click, Click, Boom!" in that commercial instead. I miss the one with Thierry Henry dribbling around the house: "Hey Martha, it's that crazy Frenchman again!"
I have a friend who was in the commercial and the shooting for 1 scene took an entire day in the old Cabrini Green section of chicago. As much as I like it, the commercial seems very jumpy and ADDish. ( I have a talent for making up words). I would like to have seen the spots to be a little longer in the 1 places. Everyone knows the nikesoccer.com promotion of the cities. They should shoot a 30 sec commercial or 1 min. of soccer in each of the major cities.
great commercial, but i've only seen it on fox soccer channel. hopefully it gets more exposure on other channels/shows where non-soccer fans can get exposed to it. whenever i see it on fox soccer or during a usmnt game i just get the sense that nikesoccer is preaching to the choir...
I've seen it on during Sportscenter (like at 9 am or so) so it's definitely not just on FSC though I might imagine it gets more play during soccer programming than it normally does.
Re: New Nike Soccer Commercial I see it on all the time on my local Fox channel. I saw it during Prison Break and House. Its all over the place. Love the commercial. This kind of positive display is needed for the sport to grow. Show it as exciting, show people why the world loves it so much. El Rey de los deportes.........
There is also a new video on nikesoccer.com from the us-mex game...its okay, not as awe inspiring as the others
I had to laugh when I saw this thread; I thought I was the only one who had noticed this commercial! I actually play it online when I sign on to the message boards, how sick is that! But it is a GREAT commercial, definately an attention grabber. Kudos to Nike.
Is that Freddie Adu? Cuz it looks like eddie johnson to me. plus at the end of the commercial when they are showing the group of US players I see Johnson but no Adu...Plus i dont think that is really jim rome.
