Does anyone know of any special parties or music events that will be happening in SA during the World Cup? Are there any web sites with good listings of what will be going on in the clubs during that time? I'm most interested in seeing electronic music (like trance and house) DJ's, but live performances or anything else fun would also be cool. Also, do any of you have any recommendations for where to go (in Joburg, Cape Town or Durban), and on which nights? I was at this year's Winter Olympics in Vancouver - the clubs there were open every night (or close to it) and numerous world-famous DJ's played there. That made an already awesome overall experience even better. If there will be something like that in SA, that would be absolutely fantastic.
Usually you can spot street posters featuring trance/house etc. Not much in the way of live performances by Overseas artists - except for Opening concert, Fatboy Slim and Andrea Bocelli D) we hardly ever get overseas artists - wussies. Best is to ask any local under 25 where the action is that night.Also check what's on sections of local newspapers or cities websites. Sorry - not much help. i got an email about nightlife regarding this website - it's something promoting VIP cards for "easier" access to clubs. while i'm not promoting people to buy the card, it does list places they are promoting - so that could be a good start. i just hope the club are bar scenes are not filled with sex workers. it will be interesting to see the guy to girl ratio at some of these parties... https://www.twentytenvip.com/
Someone told me the best clubs are going to be the ones in the casino. If that's true I have no idea. But I do plan on catching the nightlife....I can sleep in the states so I don't want to do too much of that on my trip.
just remember SA has the highest AIDS rate in the world... Anywho, on a less serious note, there's lots of night clubs/bars in the sandton/fourways area..
! Some have strict dress codes (no jeans) but most of them allow sneakers - just not slip slops! If you have a pair of dark jeans you could sneak past. I presume some of them will relax their rules for the WC.
