So FF was just doing his usual Monday routine - snifter of Brandy, smoking jacket, fine Cuban cigar - perusing the The Guardian of Nairobi ...

Same way most of these guys show up - his agent was shopping him around.

At his most dangerous running at defenders from his left or central midfield position and must not be given space around the edge of the box because he possesses a venemous strike with his left foot. Began his career at Julius Berger in Nigeria, before moving to Esperance in Tunisia - where he won consecutive titles. He was signed by Roda in 1996, from under the noses of Utrecht, and has been in the first team ever since. Won a gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Says the Moslem prayers for the Super Eagles before matches.

If anybody is interested, his nickname is "Chindo"

"He claimed that Levski failed to fulfil its financial obligations to him, saying that this was why he left the club to play football for money. "I cannot remain in the game forever. SO since they cannot meet my terms I have to seek for fortune in another club," he narrated"

Must've been offered a pretty lucrative deal with MLS' most financial massive club.

Who's leaving? My best guess is that Buddle is off to the Metros. Oh, you meant for this guy?...yeah definitely Garcia.

After 10 years in Europe? Another washed-up player? Another Mark Williams?

Well this guy does turn 30 next May... I'm rather skeptical like Crewtoon.

However, if he's still got his legs and can do a good job on the left side of the midfield, I'm sure it'll be better than the non-presence we had over there last season. From that quote, sounds like he can actually shoot from outside the box.

    When is this tournament over?

He said January 17 was when he could report to the Crew. So right after the draft. I sure hope he can help us on the left side. I just can't take another 30-something "expirement" from this club, so he better do well.

Personally, I was hoping the Crew would land Testo but how would this affect our salary cap?

I want Testo as well, but Andrulis won't go after him because it's very possible that he will be on the U-23 Olympic roster. As Andrulis sees it, the Crew already have enough players that have Nat obligations.

Who knows about the salary cap. Although you have to think that McBride, Cunningham, and Hejduk make 200K and up and Mais and Clark who aren't going to be droped this year, but will have reduced salaries are right around 90K to 150K. Then this guy, who knows. I guess if I was to think of other allocations, anywhere between 150K and 250K

since we're already tight on the salary cap, we probably need to sign someone nobody's ever heard of and someone who may not require the max. 300k salary.

When I read this guy's bio, I can't even explain how quickly the name "Mark Williams" came to mind. I mean, they're so similar with those World Cup and Olympics appearances.

It's funny how "ten years in Europe" leads people to think of a washed-up player while "eight years in MLS" doesn't necessarily do the same, even if the MLS guy is older.

True, FF. I thought I was reading the Blackburn boards as they talked about the possibility of another "washed up 30+ year old striker" joining them. And we do know that McBride would make a difference for them. A guy who has played top division soccer in a solid European league, scores 5-6 goals a season from his left midfield position, has a solid shot from outside, and (I'm stereotyping here) being a Nigerian born and raised soccer player he probably has some very good dribbling skills; hell, yeah, send him over. I wonder if he knows how to take free kicks and corners!

Also to remember, only $280-300K would count against the salary cap (good-bye Clark and Garcia). The rest would be one of those MLS/advertising combo deals that'll probably push his salary to the Donovan, McBride, Matthaus, Donadoni, etc levels.

If this guy were to sign and play for Columbus, I assume it's not just Garcia likely to be gone. You also have to add in one of the SIs.
