Y'know, Newcastle's looking like a player this year.
    Third? Second?
    We'll see...

    How? Why?

I don't see any additions I'd envy this year. Butt? Pfft. Justifiably below Phil Neville and Djemba-Djemba on our pecking order. How's he supposed to help Newcastle so much?

And Kluivert...let's just say there's a reason that nobody wanted him, even on a free. And it wasn't just the wages.

I am happy for Nicky... he will be the starter at Dmid there and he will really help them alot... they have a host of attacking mids, but no class dmids and he will allow the attackers to flourish... Nicky should do well there... again, cant say how happy I am for him. He might be as beloved as Scholes or Giggs if Keane was not here... its a pity he never got his chance to shine like the others did... class player, class person... stuck by the team through thick and thin..

You got to tip your cap to a player who played hs best for ManU for so long. Even last year when he began seeing less playing time, he refused to leave when given chances to do so. He knew that leaving would bolster his chances to remain as a starter for the National team. He is a gentleman and I wish him success at Newcastle, though hopefully not against the reds :p

That's a great picture. Makes you wonder what happened to the guy on the floor mind...looks like he's just felt the wrath of a NBT(Natural Born Tackler :D )

Oh, an Umbro kit. Ah, when all was right with our game [/reminisce]

Read my sig... we really specialize in this kind of player. Players like Ole Gunnar, Nicky and even Quinton Fortune. They did what others would not, they did not have the fame, but they bought into SAF's plan, and listened to Keane on the field. They are truly team players, men of character and men of honor. I have great respect for both Nicky and Ole, who both had the chance to shine somewhere else (Butt actually was much better than he is now, I mean he is still a good tackler, but back then he could start attacks and had a more rounded game) but did not take that chance, they really are loyal. That's one thing I love about my team - we are a family, a real team. I mean, look at the relationships that our players developed! Gaz and Becks, as great an understanding and chemistry between RB and RW as there has ever been. Teddy and Ole, they read each other's minds. Yorke and Cole, well they were the perfect striking tandem, and then we had the other perfect tandem behind them...

Man, the nostalgia is hard to fight... we will soon have some other partnerships... think of it, 5 years down the road... Ronaldo and Gaz (Gaz will be old then) Saha and Ruud, Rooney and Smith :) Kleberson and Fletcher (this is strictly in Motterman's opinion :) )

    Now that's just weird!

It's odd, I'm both happy and sad at his leaving, probably for the best though. He's been great over the years.

Could you explain your feelings further, and use Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Tel Aviv as examples, just to clear things up a bit??

He was a solid player for a long time. In the right formation, I think he could have started for the team (4-5-1, with a dedicated DM). But he was never going to have that position, with Keane there, especially with the team moving to a 4-4-2 which requires more versatile midfielders.

I still wonder why Alex never tried converting him to CB. He tried with Keane, though Butt would seem to be better suited for it.

Most people are upset with the transfer fee, but the real value to United will be not paying his weekly wages anymore. Just keep that in mind.

Otherwise, thank you for your years of service Nicky. I know you will do well at Newcastle, be sure to give a kick to Shearer during training for us, thanks! :D

There's always the "head-to-head" match ups...

Butt to contain Dong, etc. etc.

Back on topic, Nicky is at St. James for his medical, transfer expected to be completed tomorrow.
