"Eight minutes into the second half, Frode Johnsen put Rosenborg up 1-0. Brattbakk got free on the left and fired a shot that Conway saved, but the rebound fell to Johnsen. He then slotted the ball into the empty net." Yallop's #1 concern/job should be finding a starting keeper!
I don't know what kind of shot it was, to make a judgement about Conway, based on this episode. Maybe it is a miracle, that Jon was able to, at least, deflect that shot.
I tend to wanna see the shot also, before judging Conway. If a deflection is off a keepers hands, it should never be deflected back into a dangerous situation. If it deflects off his foot or legs, that's more understandable. Alexi, you are starting to become an Earthquake apologist. It's ok to expect the Quakes to win.
We have all seen Conway play, he has shown well at times but for the most part he should remain a back-up keeper. His hands need to be much softer or we will see many more story lines like the one reported on the Quakes web site. I saw the same thing when the Quakes played against the Chinese team, simple cross that he should have just caught and distributed. OOPS, he dropped the ball and had to make a very desperate lunge to retrieve the ball off the ground. I want to believe in him I just can't!
He tripped on a gopher. All of us in the end zone stand saw it. That's our story and we're sticking to it. (Actually, he tripped on a new piece of turf where the goal mouth had been re-sodded, but yes, it was an unwanted moment of excitement.)
Since when did Tim Conway start playing for the 'Quakes? Can't wait til "Dorf on Soccer" comes out on video....
