Taking inspiration from others on this forum who have set up location specific threads for Euro 2016, I've decided to make one for Nice. I'm spending a week in Nice with a group of 8 friends from 25th June - 2nd July and was wondering if anyone out there may be able to suggest things to do, places to visit and, more importantly, places to drink. I'm hoping to find tickets to the R16 game that's on in Nice during that time. If not, I'll be watching it - and all the other games - on the big screen at the Fan Zone. If UEFA's Fan Zone's are anything like FIFA's Fan Fests then I'd highly recommend going to the Fan Zone!
Tackling the most important, drinking: Wayne's: http://www.waynes.fr/ Ma Nolan's: http://www.ma-nolans.com/ Just passing along suggestions that I've been given -- have only just started to plan my own trip to Nice and Lyon. It appears that the fan zone will be in Place Massenna. http://www.nicematin.com/vie-locale...olongations-se-joueront-en-centre-ville-14771
I'm there 22-25 June, got a ticket to Sweden vs Belgium. This place looks amazing but it's also ridiculously expensive, my 4 bed dorm is costing $70 a night!
Perfect, thanks! I've searched Google quite a few times for any info regarding the Fan Zone in Nice and could only find Fan Zone info relating to Paris! My AirBnb is located on the valley overlooking Boulevard de la Madeleine so it looks like a 35 min walk or 15 min taxi to Place Massenna. Looks like a great location! I can't find much info about buses or trains for Nice, if anyone could help with this? There appears to be a train station nearby called "Gare de La Madeleine" but, from what I can find about this station, it appears that trains only run from Nice to centre to and through this station - not from this station to the town centre... Can this be right?!
Our 8 person villa is costing us around £30 a night each which I think is very reasonable - it looks stunning. But yes, I think the amount spent day to day will be a lot. As I said, I'm hoping to spend match days in the Fan Zone and, if the prices for the beer and food is anything like those in FIFA's fan fests, you better start saving now!
A day trip to Monaco is certainly on the agenda! However, I'm not sure my budget stretches quite far enough to spend the week there! I recently read that 1/3 of the population of Monaco are millionaires and I suspect the shops know this too!
I will attend Sweden vs Belgium 22 June in Nice. I´ll spend the days before in Menton who´s situated towards the italian border. Accomodation and other things should be less expensive and the tempo a little bit slower. Menton is a nice place. Was there in the 80`s so I am looking forward to see the place again. I think it is a credible alternative to places like Monte Carlo and Cannes.
I can see that we are talking about my home town. Please find below some tips: Nice Food: Chez pipohttp://www.chezpipo.fr/) Typical food from nice (more like a snack than a proper meal). You have to try socca it is one of the biggest speciality of Nice. Be prepared to wait 45min if you arrive after 7pm L'union (http://www.unionrestaurant.fr/) Very traditional food from Nice, amazing gnocchi and ravioli Not really touristy so be prepared that no one speaks English Not so far from the city center Lou Pantail (http://www.loupantail.com/) Excellent food oven Pizza, this place is a good spot for italien/french and Nice kitchen. As well not really touristy Rosalina (https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Rest...Nice_French_Riviera_Cote_d_Azur_Provence.html) Trendy place for nice, good place, just the service can take forever so don't be in the hurry. Close to the harbour Vieux-Nice "Vieux-nice",it is the old part nice, good to have a walk around after sunset. You should try to ice-cream Fenocchio (http://www.fenocchio.fr/) with crazy flavour. I wouldn't recommend to eat at any restaurant at the "Course Saleya", expensive and the food is not so good. Actually on average the quality of food is lower in the Vieux Nice Drink: Place Garibaldi Nice square close by Vieux nice, not too crowed, very good after 4pm for a nice fresh Rose. Museum: Modern art museum of nice, Mamac (http://www.mamac-nice.org/) is pretty good (if you like modern art of course) Monaco Food/Drink Booda Bar (http://www.montecarlosbm.com/bars-lounge-and-night-club/buddha-bar/): Well located near the Casino area, this is a restaurant and then lounge/bar after, it is a cool spot. They have really good sushi and cocktail It tends to be very busy after 10:30 Club: Twiga (https://www.facebook.com/Twiga-Monte-Carlo-1416919698562100/) Location is very good, you are literally on the sea, it is a little bit too much focus on table (not so much space for people without table) and it can be little bit cliché (amazing pretty girls with old rich man haha) but it is free entry you should have a look (Come after midnight Thursday/Friday or Saturday) Zelos(http://www.zelosworld.com/) Club for more younger people between 20 to 25 year old Nothing special to say, crowed every week end JimmZ One of the most historical club, to be honest when I was young I have never managed to get inside. It is incredibly expensive I heard. They sometimes have international famous DJ I am curious about your feedback if you go there Bar Sea Lounge I have never been, it is a new place you should check it out a bit once you are there Villefrance-sur-mer Located between Nice and Monaco, this place is very lovely with a cute old town and a semi-sandy beach. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Bit Further than Villefrance, this area is really pretty (bit complicated to park your car unfortunately). There is a really nice walk around (https://scottstraveladventures.word...my-coastal-walk-around-saint-jean-cap-ferrat/) it takes few hours, prepare good shoes. Mala Beach Near Monaco, very cool beach place Cannes The old city is cute (not so big) Restaurant/Club: Baoli: (http://www.lebaoli.com/baoli/) Good place if you want to splash some serious cash Club: Gotha (http://gotha-club.com/) Serious line-up during the Summer at this club. ile de lerins (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lérins_Islands) 15min by boat from Cannes, or 2h from Nice very cute small islands, nice to spend one afternoon there. Good walk and small/tiny rocky beach (not really sandy beach) Saint paul de vence (https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Tour...h_Riviera_Cote_d_Azur_Provence-Vacations.html) Nice arty old city,
Great stuff, thanks! Is it difficult to get into those clubs you spoke of in Cannes? It is after all a high roller place haha
When I was living in Nice I preferred to go clubbing in Monaco, these club in Cannes can be annoying regarding the entry if: - you are only with guys - you wear too relax clothes - if you are younger than 25yo (for boys) It tends to be as well expensive. I would go only for specific DJ in my opinion.
Regarding the stadium few importants note: It is a brand new stadium, ,it is very nice and well made. People are really near to the pitch and the view is pretty good from all cat. One cool point, inside the stadium it is possible to walk around the field between cat. (not sure I am clear haha) Unfortunately the tramway to go to the stadium is not finished yet, so it is quiet a pain to go to this stadium. For OGNCNICE (local team) game, the are a lot of shuttle bus which starts from Palais Nikaia (Very big parking) I think they will do something for the EURO game, I will keep you posted. As well it is very industrial area, nothing really to do around. I woudn't spend the all afternoon before the game there. I am not sure but I think the fan zone will be place Massena, so right in the city center, near by the cool old town "Vieux-Nice" with nice Pub and bar, also very near the sea. Nice is pretty safe in general, just be a bit careful at night near the beach. Guys if you have any question, feel free to ask I am here for that I will be in Nice in June and July. Cheers
Watch out your bags and belongings, it is dark a lot of people are drinking/smoking on the beach and some people still stuff... Well just commun sense but i prefer to say it . Enjoy nice
Nope never been, Nice has been really influenced by Italien culture (paella is more a spanish dish) and italien kitchen.
One of my mates is almost sure that have a spare cat1 for spain vs turkey, it will sell it in hands at face value plus some wine or beer , my fee as middleman
Just got round to reading through all of this. Thanks so much - exactly the sort of info I was after and more!
We've got a sweet 3 bedroom villa in Nice with a pool for dirt cheap really. Staying 16-20 June and going to Spain - Turkey. Cannot wait. Going out in Monte Carlo on one night, it's our friends birthday. We arrive on the day of England vs Wales - definitely heading to Wayne's for that one!
