Yep I was believe that after he left here he went back overseas to continue to play and now he went back to Ireland to become a coach. This is why we haven't seen him at anything until that event he came to for the team.

The way I read the article is that the literal contracts were below the DP threshold, but Miami had other deals in place with the players (like marketing/endorsement deals) and/or transfer fees paid that pushed them into DP status, but Miami didn't report those to the league offices or didn't report the full value of them.
This is what I saw in the article also. They are were acting like tax cheats in relationship to MLS rules.
