Soon-to-be trialist Johannes Ngodzo of Zimbabwe is mentioned repeatedly in a search on the allAfrica.com site, and the words "classic goal" and "midfield marvel" are applied to him. And then we have the following link, in which Ngodzo and the vast majority of his national team mates got sacked after a 2-0 win over lightly regarded Seychelles. Make of it what you will. http://allafrica.com/stories/200304010382.html Anyway, Nicol said Ngodzo will be in to train on Tuesday.
Maybe he was looking past the match to his trial with the Revs. Hard to focus when your opportunity of a lifetime is coming up!
Re: Re: Ngodzo Ya know, some people may take this statement lightly, but I think many African players would love the opportunity to play next to Twellman. It might be time to do more serious scouting in Africa. When MLS gains more stability on its home continent, we could nurture better communications and developmental programs with Africa, et. al.. A poster on the wall of Ngodzo next to Twellman may do wonders for African youths with a dream. It's easy to lose sight of the struggles that third world youth go through. Most of us can remember our dreams of being a sports hero when we were children, but you'd have to exponentiate that dream ten-times-over when you consider the dire conditions these kids have in these poor countries. They don't much to hope for, so dreams of being a star in The Beautiful Game is a respectable driving force. I'm hoping for more Ngodzo's for the future.
Re: Re: Ngodzo Or perhaps with the current state of affairs in Zim these guys really didn't want to give their all for Mugabe and his cronies
His press clippings on allAfrica do look impressive indeed: http://www.google.com/search?source...oe=UTF-8&q=site:allafrica.com+Johannes+Ngodzo And then there's this profile: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Bleachers/8773/ngodzo.htm Looks like its a fan page so I wouldn't make too much of quotes like, "Without a doubt he is phenon. He will prove his talent and without a doubt will attract European attention." But there is a picture. I really hope he sticks. I'd love to have an African a-mid with some flair playing behind TnT and JMM.
From his picture he doesn't look like someone who would be knocked off the ball very easily by the rough and tumble style defenders in MLS. In MLS muscle counts and this dude looks solid. Now we'll have to see if he can play at MLS level-------!
the silence is deafening Any news on Ngodzo? Did he finally make it into camp? How does he look? Can we afford him? Do we want him?
With the two Nigerians currently on Trial looking less than ideal I'm guessing he's still very much in the picture. He's been having visa trouble but is expected in Foxboro any day. As to the question of our ability to afford him the collective wisdom is that we have sufficient Cap left to hire an African AMF. Word is he come highly recommended by an old SN team mate which bodes well for the future of the relationship of Ngodzo and the Revs.
