AS Roma v Zaglebie Lubin http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...ccer-back-to-wrigley-20120516,0,1339190.story
Am I the only one that wishes the Fire were involved in this somehow- either as a regular season double-header or a friendly against an international opponent? I realize that it might not be profitable or whatever, but it'd be pretty damn cool. As a Sox fan though, I'm holding out hope that they're on the verge of announcing a friendly against Celtic at the Cell. Any minute now...
Pfft. Wrigley. ..and on same day as Santo tribute? That makes no sense. Pandering cash grab. Been a fan of Roma for years, would like to see them play, gonna pass on this 'event'.
I can't get all moralistic over this. When you get right down to it, MLS is a cash grab, a movie is a cash grab, a restaurant is a cash grab. The question is whether you will get entertainment value in excess of what you pay. I know some will go off on how the Fire or any club is more than that because of the personal investment, yadda yadda. That is true to an extent, but not to Andrew. He didn't build a $6,000 per seat club to satisfy our personal investment in the Club. My experience with all friendlies is that they can be very entertaining right before the euro season starts as the teams are serious about what they are doing and players are fighting for spots. You have to be wary with a WC or Euro Championship because a lot of better players might be resting. Either way, this seems like a fun day in the sun to me with a chance to see Roma live. Count me in. I'll be at the Fire v. Aston villa match at TP one day and this game at Wrigley the next. Besides, this is also a chance to honor former White Sox great, Ron Santo.
Is this going to be set up like the Northwestern-Illinois football game with only one Goal and each team has to try to score in one direction? Anyway, I was sort of interested in a match at Wrigley until I saw the club names. Roma? Zaglebie Lubin? Will this even bring in 7,000 people?????? Even with the Santo Trubute it would probably be a ghost town afterwards I imagine.
European players will see the cramped and outdated lockerrooms and stadium and think 'WTF is this'??? Nice way to make Chicago look bad and primitive. Should've just had Fire vs Roma at Toyota Park
Stupid Tribune (or Cubs organization for that matter). The team is: Zaglebie Lublin (Lublin is a city which brews the world's greatest beer).
What the F*ck are you talking about?!? Lublin is in Eastern Poland, 1oo mi (160km) east of Warsaw, with a population of 350,000 (one of 10 largest in Poland). Lubin is in Southwestern Poland, near(ish) the German and Czech border, with a population of 76,000 (not even in the top 40 or so). The two cities are very different and hundreds of kilometers away from each other. I have been to Lublin many times, my girlfriend is from there. They have almost no soccer culture there. Zagłębie Lubin plays in the Ekstraklasa. Motor Lublin plays in the second division in Poland. I do agree that Perla is a pretty good Polish beer, though. I would not go so far as to see the best in the world, but pretty good. I also agree that both the Tribune and Cubs organization are stupid.
Speaking of the Cubs. They are owned by the Ricketts family. the TURDS behind this Jeremiah Wright Super PAC screed. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/17/u...ac-weighs-hard-line-attack-on-obama.html?_r=1 I was a Cub fan all my life. Today I turned down a Cub/Sox ticket. F the Cubs and F baseball.
Technically is the grandpa that is behind the commercials, the kids were quick to try to distance them selves from the ad, but it seems that the damaged is done. They are going to get Dixie Chicked by the fans.
And lol to 11 sections each. I guess these organizers weren't at the Sister Cities Cup where a handful of Legia fans and 2 PSG fans showed up.
Michael Bradley just signed for AS Roma http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/07/15/american-exports-bradley-move-roma-done-deal
