Name one European or African pro (heck I'll take semi-pro) team that plays NFL rules football.

 

Heh ... the USA goes bat shit crazy over a goal for the first time in its WC history and all of a sudden American Soccer has a divine right to show videos of fans going crazy?

... I bet the NFL is just gagging to steal marketting ideas from MLS. Giddy over that idea that soccer can be big one day so that NFL can stand on its shoulders and actually get somewhere in the American market place.

Get over yourselves, I saw that ad multiple times and I never even thought about the fan reaction videos from the World Cup.

 

There's Scotsman Lawrence Tynes. And some old Danish guy used to play as well, according to this post on the Yanks Abroad forum. And there are some Samoan guys as well, but I guess they're not European or African.

I think Green Bay had a defensive lineman from Africa, but I'm not 100% sure.

But yeah, there's no teams that play NFL rules football outside the NFL as far as I know, so I have no issue with the Saints calling themselves World Champions. They are the champions of the world in NFL rules football.

I completely agree with what you're saying. I still can't help but laugh every time I hear the term "World Champions" in this context, though.

I was gonna mention the mighty Stuttgart Scorpions but then I realized they play based off the NCAA rules.

Well, I certainly thought of the World Cup fan reaction video of Donovan's goal the first time I saw the NFL ad. And so did several of my friends.

So it's just a funny coincidence that tho fan reaction videos of NFL teams have existed all this time but NFL waits until now to put them in a commercial?

Donovan's goal "broke" twitter. It spawned The fan reaction video. I think it's very easy to think someone at NFL headquarters marketing noticed it, saw its effect and put their thinking caps on.

 

Why are so many soccer fans such douchebags?

 

Technically the NBA officially calls its teams "NBA Champions" it's the fans and individual teams that go on to call them world champs.

(though the Rockets (95), Bulls (97), and Spurs (99) do each have a world championship via McDonalds championship, they should bring that tourney back)

 

MLB needs to stop it as well.

One cannot call their champs "World Series" champs when there is now the World Baseball Classic, which Japan convincingly won over all-comers, including the USA.

 

Agreed!! I went and watched that well done video with the "Rudy" music and before I knew it tears were coming down! Six months later and it still got me almost immediately!

 

Because they want to be accepted so badly.

 

When the Lakers visited Obama recently, they had a banner that said "World Champions".

i think is a mutual respect, not only a lot of nfl fans are starting to look up to soccer but a lot of us are starting to give american football some respect too, is a big boys thing i guess

now ncaa soccer needs to get some respect from ncaaf, and that is a bigger beast, but we will get it eventually.

 

i think is acceptable for the lakers to do that, they would trash barcelona or any other team at any given time, im talking raping any european bk team.

As for the tournament it was quietly canceled, aside from the NBA the Euroleague never got on board either. Funnily enough the Lakers and Barca did play each other this year anyway in a friendly.

MLS needs to follow the steps of their big brothers, nba and nfl, they are great example for the the little guy
