Every Tuesday (ESPN.com) and Thursday (CNNSI.com) come out with the power rankings for the NFL. Sometimes interesting. Anybody got a top 10 right now?

    Here is mine:

    1. Green Bay (7-1)
    2. Denver (6-2)
    3. New Orleans (6-2)
    4. Tampa Bay (7-2)
    5. Philadelphia (6-2)
    6. San Francisco (6-2)
    7. Pittsburgh (5-3)
    8. San Diego (6-2)
    9. New England (4-4)
    10. Atlanta (5-3)

    - New England doesn't belong in there
    - Philly should be #2
    - San Diego shouldn't be on there

    So my revised top 10?

    1. Green Bay (7-1)
    2. Philadelphia (6-2)
    3. Tampa Bay (7-2)
    4. New Orleans (6-2)
    5. San Francisco (6-2)
    6. Denver (6-2)
    7. Pittsburgh (5-3)
    8. Atlanta (5-3)
    9. Kansas City (4-4)
    10. Miami (5-3)

I added Miami and KC. Even though Miami got rocked last night, that is a damn good GB defense, has been for years. They've lost two straight, but before that they beat Denver and NE back to back. I would rank KC's offense at #2 on the power rankings, but for some silly reason you have to include the entire team when you do power rankings. If this team had a defense that was just a little bit better, they would be 8-0 or 7-1. They have lost 3 games by a field goal in shootouts that are ranked in CityIceMan's top 9.

I moved Denver down to #6 because they aren't as dominant as a #2 team should be. They won by a flip of the coin in KC and got absolutely rolled by Baltimore which we all remember. They are good and are probably going to win the AFC West, but they haven't shown me that they are the #2 team in the NFL. Potential? yes, but they aren't living up to it.

But of course, this is all just opinions.

My problem with San Diego is that they are a Marty Schottemheimer team. As a Chiefs fan I am all to familiar with Marty his his coachiing style. He takes decent teams and makes them good teams just by motivating them. Problem with that is your players can't always keep up that pace, look at what happened against the Jets. Other thing is his teams are never dominant. They can't beat teams 44-13 for example. His Chiefs teams never won big. It was amazing that two of them went 13-3. 3 of the 6 SD wins came against Houston, Cincy, and Arizona in the first 3 weeks. Since then they have gone 3-2 against KC, NE, Den, Jets, and Oak in all close games with the exception of the losses.

CNNSI just released their power rankings. Denver #1? Tampa #8? That is a joke. Here is CNNSI Top 10:

    4. San Francisco (6-2)
    5. New Orleans (6-2)
    6. San Diego (6-2)
    7. Kansas City (4-4)
    8. Tampa Bay (7-2)
    9. Pittsburgh (5-3)
    10. Atlanta (5-3)

You can debate the #1 Denver / #2 GB thing and get nowhere; as it stands they're both favorites to meet in the Super Bowl. But I have no problem with Tampa at #8. They lost at home to #5 New Orleans and got stomped by #3 Philly on the road. Their wins are against Baltimore (3-5), St Louis in their down period (3-5), Cincinnati (1-7), Atlanta (TB's best win at 5-3), Cleveland (4-5), Carolina (3-5) and Minnesota (2-6). If they win against Green Bay or New Orleans, they move up. Otherwise, they are a wild card team.

I strongly disagree with this. The Pats four losses are to pretty darn good teams. Their opponents thus far have been a combined 41-24. Not bad. Their opponents for the remainder of the season are a combined 27-37 and they are merely a half a game out of a playoff spot.

Look for the Pats to come on in the second half like last year and be a contender. As for the rankings, I have them eighth.

    1. Packers
    2. Broncos
    3. Eagles
    4. Saints
    5. Bucs
    6. Falcons
    7. Chargers
    8. Patriots
    9. Dolphins
    10. Steelers

They are a good team, but there's no way you can justify 4 straight losses no matter how good the teams are. They were a coin flip away from losing 5 straight cause they beat KC in that OT game. I'd find it hard to rank a 3-5 team in the top 10.

CNN agree with me on that point, but how do they rank GB #2? Denver could have lost to KC as easy as they won against KC. And if SD is ranked 6th, I'd hate to see what they had SD ranked before they got rolled by NY. #2? #3?
