With only five Dallas Cowboy players enshrined, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a joke.

In a bag with a cat.
Is Jerry Rice and Joe Montana in there ?. They're the only names I know. Oh, and there's Dan Marino as well.

Players have to have been retired 5 seasons (?) before they can be enshrined.

Rice is still playing, Marino will be eligible in 2005 and Montana was inducted last year.

I think Marcus Allen and Brent Jones are in for sure. Others, I have no idea.

I can't say who should not go into the HOF, as I don't have stats on any of these players. But these are the guys I'd vote for (is there a limit on the number of players a voter can select?) Be prepared to see a list a guys who helped their teams win it all over guys with gaudy stats.

QB- Plunkett. A somewhat spotty career, but he has 2 rings as a starter. Good enough for me.

Stabler- a long and distinguished career and one ring with the Silver and Black, my second favorite team after the Steelers.

RB- Foreman- helped the Vikings to NFC titles in the NFL's true Golden Era (time between the NFL-AFL merger and the first expansion)

Craig- as much as I hate the Johnny-come lately Niners, this man's almost as big a reason as Rice and Montana for their success.

WR- I hated the Skins until Spurrier began coaching there, but Art Monk must go in.

Pearson- The real Cowboys' main target.

    TE- can't say.
OL- can't say, except Jeff Van Note had a long and distinguished career protecting Steve Bartkowski. The Birds sucked, but he cannot be blamed.

DL- L.C. Greenwood was a part of the second greatest defensive line in the game's history (see Foursome, Fearsome). FOUR rings when four rings meant something. A standout for the greatest franchise in the game's history. 'Nuff said...

    Too Tall Jones.

    DB- Donnie Shell- see Greenwood.
Jack Tatum- The NFL HOF has no morality clause for the Stingley incident to matter, so he goes in. Apparently, neither does MLB (see Cobb, Ty).

    P- Ray Guy. Yep.

EDIT- PSU says seven is the limit, so scratch Note, Tatum, Too Tall, Monk and Craig. Pick 'em up next year.

Actually, from the preliminary list in the above link, the max number of players that can be inducted is 6, plus a possible 7th chosen by the Seniors Committee.

Wow. I can't believe some of the names not already in the Hall of Fame. They are a hell of a lot more selective than baseball.

Off the top of my head I'll go with:

    Lester Hayes
    Richard Dent
    Ray Donaldson
    James Lofton
    Art Monk
    Roger Craig
    Marcus Allen
    Ken Anderson
    Jim Hart

Probably too many, but I don't know which one to take off. I guess I'm not as selective as they are.

Not a Cowgirls fan, so the names don't ring a bell. As Justin O pointed out, the NFL Hall is a lot more selective than baseball.

It's cool to see a non-Falcons fan mention Van Note. I think the guy was one of the best center's in the league for 19 seasons. He has a shot.

It really pisses me off that no Falcons are in the Hall. Why the hell isn't Tommy Nobis in there?? The guy was 5 or 6 time all pro and Rookie of the Year. All of this during the early expansion years. I think he has missed the cut unless the Veteran's committee gets him in.

The guy on the ballot for the Falcons that really deserves a look is Claude Humphrey, one of the most feared DE's of the 1970's, 5 time all pro, member of the defense that allowed the fewest points ever in a 14 game season (77 points or something like that). He should at least warrant consideration.

As for Herschel, he had a great college career, but I don't know if he stood out enough in the NFL to be in the Hall. He might have to pull a Bill Walton, who gets credit for being a great pro player, even though he really just rode his college laurels to respectibility.

Those guys belong, as do the Steelers I mentioned earlier. I thought Lee Roy Jordan was already in. Are you sure he isn't?

These names don't ring a bell? Not trying to troll, but you're either blinded by team loyalty, or too young to know NFL history. Even this longtime Steelers fan understands that these men are HOF material.

Being a Niners fan, I want Brent Jones to be in it, but I seriously doubt it. Roger Craig probably has bigger chance than him. And he is only a borderline.

I don't know much about the older players, but my sure-in will be....
    Macus Allen
    Richard Dent
    Art Monk

    perhaps,
    Art Modell.....
a big may be for Ed DeBartolo Jr.....

I also think Steve Tasker is a darkhorse. He put special-team players on the football map. I did not even remember that he was a receiver until I look at this list. He won't get in this year, but somewhere down the road..... some NFL historians will rethink of him in the history of football.

It's tough to choose just 6

    Marcus Allen
    Jim Lachey
    Art Monk
    Jim Plunkett
    Donnie Shell
    Ray Guy

Not entering the hall on this ballot, but deserving:
    Stabler
    Craig
    Parcells
    Knox
    Mecklenburg (The Snow Goose)
    Zimmerman
    Van Note
    Tasker
    Christensen

A long career does not equate to the Hall:
    Anderson (both Ken and Ottis)
    Hart

Kenny Stabler is definitely worthy. I'd rank him as one of the best ever. A good case can be made for Ken Anderson as well.

    For others:

Herschel Walker should defintely be there. I love how the NFL has erased his USFL years. They can at least list it (they list college).

WR: Drew Pearson. I think he'll get screwed because he didn't have as many catches/yards as others. That didn't hurt Staubach because better statistical measures have been developed for QBs.

Too Tall Jones should also be there. I'm not sure why the Cowboys greats have been overlooked. The idea of LC being better than Jones? That's nuts. LC was on better teams.

Sam Mills and Ray Guy would be my other choices.
