Pretty sure cutting compression socks completely negates their value and turns them into regular socks
As a long-time USSF referee, I found it refreshing last year to talk to high school coaches, many who I already know from their club or academy coaching days. Didn't have a single issue with anyone, mostly because there's ramifications for a HS coach getting a yellow or red card, where in a club league, nothing happens. This surprises me to read. I always assumed that my OSI socks wore out so fast because of my inserts. After reading the forum, I'm now realizing that the sock rubbing against the insert might not be the whole problem. It is SO uncomfortable wearing those things. Regarding OSI, I made an observation regarding their antiquated shorts and spoke to someone in their upper hierarchy and had suggestions to some "minor" changes that could be made that would make it more appealing and comfortable to wear (and wouldn't cost them money). The person listened but nothing was done.
The socks themselves are compression. I buy the OSI compression socks because I don't have to fold them over, they stay up better, and with a history of calf tightness, I feel like they help. Although the last one might be placebo. I loaned a pair to a friend whom had forgotten socks and he could barely get them over his massive calves.
Yes, but the pay is great. At least in my state. $105 Varsity 2 man, no extra for travel, 7% to assignor.
I am a newbie to high school soccer and the culture. Compared to USSF, it is comical. I know how much assignors get there, but have NO idea what they're getting in the high school games I did last year. It's a top secret. In addition, I don't know if it's a NFHS requirement or our State requirement, but there is a one-time only (or yearly?) training on "Implicit Bias". I won't go into specifics, but the one hour course material (for those who haven't taken it) went into a direction I did not expect and did not spend time on things as referees you might encounter and only a few seconds spent on how to handle it. Not that I would need help on how to handle it, but I assumed that this would be more of the focus.
The State Sports organization was forced into the bias course through the Department of Education which has oversight over the schools. It stemmed from a situation with a wrestling referee and a dreadlocked wrestler, and there was a haircut involved. The course was a one off, and will not be required again. If you decided not to take the course, you were ineligible to referee state tournament games. Every single sport had that requirement. I’m sure the outside providers on the course made a lot of money. It was offered several times over the course of every sports season. Every session was different as to what was discussed. I am a HS assignor. I work a large number of hours both in and out of season. I know you don’t mean it as a slight against ALL assignors, but I find many referees to be unreliable, lazy, incompetent and uncaring when it comes to the part of their job to keep their availability up to date, to do the required course work, get the forms in on time, and accept games in a timely fashion. I cannot begin to calculate how many changes I needed to make over the course of a season due to referee inconsistency and incompetence. And, then there is the actual refereeing aspect of their job! Calls from schools and referees about yesterday’s games take up far too much of my day. I make a good amount of money doing what I do. I should be paid triple.
Did NFHS quietly remove RC for flagrantly fouling a GK in possession from the 2024-25 rules?? Rule 12-5.2.a from 2023-24 and before: Was prepping to give a local chapter training session, and I cannot find it anymore. That was always one of the NFHS-specific rules we made sure our newer members knew about. Am I missing it in another location of the 2024-25 rule book? Or did it go <POOF>?
I would say that "flagrantly" fouling anyone is going to be serious foul play, whether they are the goalkeeper or a field player.
I hear you. My understanding with old 12-5.2.a was that a firm deliberate foul (maybe taking those extra 2 steps to get to GK) was enough for RC if GK is in possession. Where I've seen it applied was often with GK collecting ball, sort of just standing with it, and a frustrated attacker decides to take a couple more steps and pop them with a shoulder to GK's chest or a 2-hand shove. A YC for UB anywhere else on the field, but a RC for deliberate foul on GK in possession.
The NFHS is such a steaming pile of shit. The only good thing about their rule books is the “situation” examples they give
No fee to the assignor in New York? I'm in Upstate New York and I pay my high school assignor a fee every year based on the number and level of games that I do.
Is Barbuto still an assignor up there? Tell Ed Kobos and Kevin Waters that I say hello...and move downstate...lol
Barbuto is up here, but he is in Western New York. I'm in Eastern New York. I believe he does some of the college assigning though.
We do not pay a fee to the assignor in our chapter in Pennsylvania, and I am not aware of others around us that would charge either. Assignments are through Arbiter and the only fee we pay is the registration fee to PIAA which has nothing to do with the assignor, and our $10 a year chapter dues, which also do not go to the assignor.
no assigning fee in the following New Yawk counties: Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland and Putnam...Orange might not have an assigning fee either, but I am not completely certain about them.
When I first started NFHS, they dropped the football signals that year. Then a couple years later, they brought them back. I never memorized them so I kept forgetting to use them wince the rest of the year, I did USSF games. No one ever complained that I didn't use them. Of course, they later did away with them again.
