Perhaps, but I have zero desire to have a petty, vindictive dickhead as face of the USMNT. And that’s even working under the assumption that Marsch would do a better job, which is highly questionable.

As someone rooting for Argentina after our exit I could live with Jesse with his "vindictiveness" rather than with "nice" gentle people from the federation who don't give a shit about anything but their income source.

I think it’s a huge stretch to assume that Poch doesn’t give a shit about anything but his paycheck just because he doesn’t act like Marsch. Poch has the same demeanor he did when he found substantially more success in the top leagues in the world than Marsch did.

I don't see any evidence Jesse is a "program builder" and he certainly isn't the coach for what we need right now.

Do we need a coach with literally no tactical plan with the ball?
Do we need a coach that whines incessantly when we need mental toughness?

Dan Helfrich played soccer at Georgetown and was team captain and Academic All American.

He loves the sport so much that he would fly down from NY for every Georgetown game over the last decade, even while CEO of Deloitte, to do play by play on the internet for Georgetown Soccer.

JFC, let the guy actually do something before you bitch out because the worst coach in MLS history, Tab Ramos, whines about shit on the internet.

I also don't know why you think anything here means Pochettino is gone or that soccer people aren't involved. FFS, whether Pochettino stays is 100% on Pochettino.

The offer is out there. Doyle and whomever else don't matter.

I don't want a vindictive dickhead as head. But even moreso, I don't want a one trick pony with no actual offense and no plan B whose rah rah shit will run dry in about ten seconds with our pool as coach.

He's not a good coach. If you look game by game, he wasn't any better than Herdman, really.

True but I do wonder how much of that was really him. I mean wouldn't we presume Canada would beat the likes of Qatar and South Africa?

Yeah that’s the thing. He really hasn’t done anything impressive since leaving Salzburg. The whole personality thing just cements him as not an option for me.

and while they can say they made the round of 16, none of their game results were all that impressive. Herdman had a horrible 2022 World Cup, but he did an excellent job in qualifying. I was more impressed by what he did than what Marsch has done with them, although herdman obviously had some shady crap going on.

I know all that meaningless shit about Helfrich already. He’s not been involved in any meaningful way on the actual soccer side of things since he played 40 years ago. He’s unqualified to make important soccer decisions, full stop.

Or are you actually advocating for part time NCAA play by play dudes to make all our coaching decisions?

JFC quit your constant bitching about anyone giving an opinion you don’t agree with. I’m bitching after 3 decades of this same organization having the same type of people making the same type of poor decisions.

Having commonly accepted best practices, clearly defined roles filled with people with a CV to match making decisions in their proscribed sphere of influence is common sense at Deloitte, Georgetown or U.S. soccer. Having super fans who love the game do it is stupid.

On the bit you added, it’s because I think Poch is gone, on his own terms, that I’m worried about who and how decisions are being made moving forward.

We should have specific people in place making these decisions, like I dunno a sporting director, not these vague committees, even if it includes a Cone or Gooch as well.

It’s a vague unofficial committee is actually my point. Some of them are qualified to some degree and I’m sure they are all lovely people who care about the game.

If Marsch is a good coach who can build a program, let him show that with Canada through 2030. He’s not so enticing an option that the USSF needs to worry about hiring him any time soon. There are a lot of attainable candidates out there with similar success at similar levels, and almost.none of them have gone out of their way to say pissy things the USSF.

I guess on a related note and to move on, I didn’t know that Dan Helfrich announced the U-19 game against Japan last month on June 9th at the Arthur Blank Facility. That was cool to see. Hope they improve the camera work for those games there in the future.

Even with the bad stint in MLS, thought that Tab did a good job with the youth teams in the US and still active around the sport now. Surprised with the reaction you gave about Tab.

Not sure Herdman will find success with Indonesia with the chaos around that federation but we shall see.

Also the most talented Canadian squad ever, and as hosts.

Similar to Poch’s job. C results with the squad and path handed to both of them.

The "suits" have been replaced by "tracksuits" as nearly every person in power in US soccer is an ex player.

They've dropped SUM as a partner, revenue has increased from $108M in 2019 to $265M in 2025 and they project over $300M this year before the additional $100M or so from the World Cup.

Assets have increased from $197M in 2019 to $460M in 2025. All the lawsuits which ate up the surplus from El Centenario were a legacy of the old crowd and have been settled.

But the same old critics make the same old criticisms without any facts.

Whether any of this pays off on the playing field is a whole other kettle of stitches in the bush but there's a much bigger warchest and a whole new US Soccer home base in Atlanta.

No, I mention it because everyone keeps calling him a "Deloitte CEO" as if that's a bad thing; as if he's a number cruncher only interested in money.

The dude might not have been as good a player as some guys but he's clearly demonstrated he cares about soccer.

And unlike other people, he probably has the skills needed to run a large organization, build consensus, make high profile hires in fields he might not be as familiar with, etc. Because that's a lot of what you need to make a successful CEO.

Let's also toss in the track record of soccer guys in charge isn't necessarily worse or better than anything else. And that we have a soccer guy in charge -- Cone. I've seen enough comments that -- not you -- many people think that she doesn't count because she's a she.

And as a final toss in, I've seen noted Soccer Guy Tim Howard say he'd hire Jesse Marsch right now ... so do we really want people like Tab and Tim running this shit? It seems to me it's the former players who lead the slightly xenophobic and overly conservative (not politically, but rather without any real belief the team can do more than bunker) crew.

I don't get the point of worrying about anything you can't control, but I also don't get why Cone -- who hired Crocker and thus hired Poch and Hayes -- is suddenly going to be someone uninterested in having soccer input.

Also, we may not directly replace Crocker, but there are absolutely going to be people who take up the work. In this situation, they may simply not want to have just one person doing everything, or perhaps Gooch gets a promotion for good work, or maybe they even don't want to wait to hire a coach until they hire a sporting director. Or hell, maybe Pochettino is going to re-sign and he would rather report to Cone directly or something.

We've seen the damage "he's just telling it like it is" has done in other fields. Not sure we want to replicate that in soccer. I just think we can aim a bit higher than Marsch anyway. And there's other guys that can coach us that way without the baggage if that's really the style you want.

I think I just partially don't start with the default that being a good player makes you a good coach or good management. Yes, knowledge of the game is valuable, but there's a lot of other skillsets there that plenty of former players absolutely suck at. And when you talk about something like what Crocker was doing ... yeah, there's a LOT of different skillsets.

So this whole attitude that everyone in US soccer should not just be a former player ... but a former US player ... yeah, I don't buy it.

Tab hasn't demonstrated being a very good coach. With the U20s, he had a stacked team, basically got forced into the ideal lineup against France, won a big upset, then immediately went away from his best lineup to the one he always preferred, and lost.

He then got all pissy because he didn't get the senior team job and quit the youth teams. That's fine, but like Marsch, there was a lot of whining an innuendo. No, dude, you aren't Scaloni.

He got a job in MLS, where his team was terrible, even with some roster adds. Then he gets fired and Ben Olsen comes in and suddenly Houston is really good and dynamic. And this is Ben Olsen, who owns like three of the worst season records in MLS history.

I'll give Tab that he's been somewhat humble about not doing well as a coach, but I don't know why I want Tab Ramos picking my coach or running my organization. Just because he was a good midfielder?

We talk a lot about increasing the quality of US coaching ... I don't think stacking US soccer with US players is really going to do it.

Wait, people complained for years about nepotism and too many "old guard" players hanging around and feeling entitled to US Soccer jobs but now people are saying we need to bring back one of those guys?
We want US Soccer to be professionally run but then people complain when a "professional" is brought in to run the organization.

I think with Pochettino much of it is cultural and the result of him coming from a different footballing culture, not that he doesn’t care or is just cashing a paycheck.
