Two of them against teams at the foot of the table.By all rights a performance of the type that took all three from the brummies is what should be expected, however as we all know it rarely ever works out that way.The home game against the Rovers was most likely down as a W in everybodys book of expected points to run out the season. The game against the toon, if we lose or draw, could see us out of a champions league position in the table for the first time in several months. On the face of it Everton have a tougher schedule to fulfill over the next month than we do.What we should be looking for here is to increase our lead over them, making sure of champions league footie next season, thus bringing in some money to the coffers and maybe-just maybe-we might be able to splurge for a player in the off season. As you all know by now i favour a player for the middle of the park and have said before the Blackburn game that Dunn is the man.Keep either Gronkjaer or Zenden then for back up as we wouldn't need to sell both if we had some money guarenteed.Probably keep (gasp, i've said it) Gronkjaer. We should be able to get something decent for Zenden. I think the Toon got the better end of that stick in the end eh? The absence of petit seems to have been a real problem in the Blackburn game and from what i can gather from talking to some of the posters on the official site Morris was dire. That lack of depth in the middle of the park could be the downfall of us. Liverpool could pick up some points from their games. What of the addicks? Are they for real or is the scheduling making them look better than they actually are, remember that Tottenham actually toped the table for a while
How many champions league spots does the Premier league get next year? Will Chelsea get one if they stay 4th or do we have to climb to 3rd?
can anyone clarify this? actually it could depend on how Man U, Newcastle and Arsenal do in this years Champions league. If they all finish strong, the EPL maybe given more spots. Is any of this true or am i making it all up?
4 spots this year. They announce the spots before the season. This is the second straight year the EPL has 4.
Actually the second straight will be next season GPK. There is four up for grabs Native for the EPL. IT has alrady been decided and regardless of what the others do in Euro footie this season it will not change. They (UEFA) take the past 5 seasons of results for each countries teams and award the spots on the merits of performances by a countries teams. They call this the co-efficient ranking. Basically it comes down to points divided by games to give a figer that is awarded to each country. The top 3 leagues at the moment are.. 1) the Spanish...la Liga 2) the Italian...serie A #)the English...the EPL All receive 4 entries into the comp. However, only the top 2 in the league make it straight through to the competition proper. The 3rd and 4th place teams must enter the 3rd round of pre qualfiying and win their two leg match to enter the 1st round group stage. The 3rd and 4th place teams recieve a seeded position for the draw after the winners of the 2nd round of pre qualifying are announced. A country can have only 4 entries..period. Real Zaragosa missed out in 2000 after Real Madrid won the Cl and finished 6th (i think) in La Liga.Zaragosa had finished 4th, normally a qualifying position. However since the holders have an automatic entry in the following years comp and thus took up one of Spains 4 maximum spots the 4th placed team that year had to go into the UEFA cup. This is the only time such an event has hapened so far. The exploits of the EPL teams this season will not have a bearing untill the 2004/2005 season.
