As others have mentioned, Carsley on an interim basis seems the best option right now. See how he gets on and interview other candidates in the process.

Sad end to the Southgate era. As much as I didn't want him to continue I really do like the bloke and appreciate everything he's done for us. He's left us in a significantly better position than where we were when he took over. Deserves a proper send-off.

I know the sentiment here is negative towards Potter but I wouldn't mind him icl. I think he has a lot of what it takes to be a successful international manager. I don't think he'd be my first choice but if he gets the job I won't be angry.

Thanks Gareth. A great guy, but right decision I think. The future should be bright if the FA doesn't screw this up

Maybe but an Interim just doesn’t seem plausible when they have plenty of notice.

And that’s the risk. The FA messed up a bit when Taylor replaced Robson (But Taylor had a shit ton of bad luck as well) and a fair bit when McClaren replaced Sven. They probably got it right with Hoddle for Venables and in 2012 they wasn’t too many alternatives to Hodgson who looked good on paper.

Yeah, I wouldn't get too caught up in all the obituaries that are bound to follow in the next few days. With that CV behind him, it's almost inevitable that at some point in the future, an England manager will quit or get fired, and Southgate will be back.

It just sort of feels inevitable.

Of course it plausible, here a quote from Bullingham just now!

"The process for appointing Gareth’s successor is now under way and we aim to have our new manager confirmed as soon as possible," he said. "Our Uefa Nations League campaign starts in September, and we have an interim solution in place if it is needed.

"We know there will be inevitable speculation, but we won’t be commenting further on our process until we appoint."

The interim solution is either Carsley or Holland. Or maybe even Weigman,

I'll give it six months if Tuchel, Lampard or Gerrard get the gig :)

I remember you getting banned from here after the quarter final exit at WC22 because you had a meltdown, part of which was saying that we wouldn't even qualify for the Euros. We actually reached the final just the other day. Hopefully you didn't put a bet on that prediction!

I'd like to see the next manager build the midfield around Wharton

I would look at Potter for sure.
During his time at Chelsea he had good wins over Milan and Dortmund in Europe.
He also took that smaller Swedish club Ostersunds to some good wins in Europe.

He is the kind of guy who would do detailed research for a game. Right now he is available.

Read the article properly, not the clickbait introduction.
It is baffling why Lampard and Gerrard are highlighted when there are 8 other names before them in the article. But at least Fireburn will have something to fear for a few days, of course without any basis as usual.

The Atheltic have done round up. Starting with Guardiola and Klopp followed by Pochettino, Potter, Tuchel, Carsley, Weigman, Thomas Frank, Lampard. They ‘joke’ that a riot could occur if Lampard is hired.

That's an all-time terrible prediction, its almost impossible to not qualify for the Euros!

Potter is the type to beat Spain/France/Germany away but then in the next match lose to someone like Bosnia.
