I hope it’s Carsley but I fear the FA think he is not experienced enough and/od he won’t be popular enough. There has been times in the past when the FA has decided the popular reaction to who is hired is more important than their skills.
Southgate is going to go and they're going to have to make a decision. I don't know why Carsley would be that unpopular, he'd be more popular than some failed Premier League manager with a big name imo.
The trouble with Carsley is that the more I think about it, the more I think he'd be basically more of the same, just with a slightly different philosophy. It's not like the U21 team that won the U21 Euros had a defined identity or patterns of play, he just preferred the same sort of system and profile of player that we prefer. It would produce better football, but I'm not sure it would be any more effective.
The mood seems to be in favour of a big name with top experience rather than someone who has never coached a senior team. And also against the FA keeping Southgate on post Qatar so hiring another insider will be seen as the FA being cautious and hiring another Yes man.
France have won a World Cup and made two further finals playing without any real notable style of play
It's a risk I know, but he understands balance and relationships between technical profiles very well and that's a lot of what international management is. I think he's worth a gamble if we can't get Poch or Potter personally.
https://metro.co.uk/2024/07/07/gary...reth-southgate-next-england-manager-21179075/ Gary Lineker suggests Frank Lampard or Eddie Howe should replace Southgate.
Eddie Howe I get but why would Lineker think Lampard would be a good appointment other than the fact he’s English? If that’s the criteria then I rather have some of the guys from this forum managing the team than Frank
They're all working together at the BBC for the tournament and presumably friends, I don't think it goes deeper than that.
If you’ve listened to Lineker on his podcast (don’t it’s terrible), where you actually hear his footballing opinions, you soon realise why he he’s a presenter and not a pundit.
I think having made the semi Dyche’s chances are now very very slim. I feel like the FA will approach Howe firet and then if he turns them down they will either go for Potter or Pochettino.

🚨⚪️⚫️ Newcastle co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are to leave the club, confirmed.Their share will be sold after three years at the club, as part of the plan. pic.twitter.com/Hl4nh2PARu— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 10, 2024 How long till Howe goes as well. I can see him turning down England only to sacked within the year anyway.
The Premier League has massively shot itself in the foot with these new financial restrictions. The league just doesn't seem like an attractive place to invest any more, so long as success a la City is basically banned.
UEFA rules also have a big impact. And also the majority want a league where every season a different team can win.
I don’t think they will want a caretaker option. They surely will want whoever is in place for the Ireland match to be the manager who will take the team to North America for the World Cup.
Not sure how that will happen when the history Clubs will still generally generate a lot more money than the rest of the Clubs in the Premier League?

It’s pretty hard to complain about his tournament record other than winning a trophy unless he can get it over the line on Sunday but there’s still a big part of me that thinks a change could be good. It’s tough though because he’s done so much good for the National side but I dunno, maybe if he beats Spain on Sunday then obviously there’s going to be a push for him to stay on.
