There's next to no rivalry at all between Northern Ireland and England. The FA would prefer an English coach, but I think Rodgers would be close enough for them. His entire career pretty much has been working with England players and he's always been very supportive of them.
Nope. I would say it’s certainly more likely they would appoint a Northern Irish manager (even one whose background is Catholic and has managed Celtic.) than a Frenchman. 30 years ago I suspect he would have been ruled out on political grounds but not now. Things have moved on.
Sadly I don’t think the FA can afford to (or be able to justify) increasing the pay too much above what Southgate is getting.
It just feels like if he is free people might demand an more TalkSport type manager and Dyche fits. I think Potter is going to be a sort of shadow over the next manager - sort of the one everyone wants but is not achievable. And the new manager might feel that as well.
Like a manager who appeals to the people who tend to phone into TalkSport. Southgate has never been that.
I do wonder if the FA is monitoring how people react to the rumours about Tuchel and Pochetino before deciding if they plausible candidates to seriously consider or if Southgate has to go after Qatar they panic and just hire the first English/ British manager that is available and affordable.
It would be irresponsible and foolish if the FA panic and just employ an Englishman who is down the pecking order due to the unavailability of our better options, just because they want an Englishman. If there are better options available who don’t happen to be English then they should be considered otherwise your just gonna to waste another few years which would be absolutely pointless in my opinion just for the sake of being pig headed.
But the FA literally did that in 2016 when they hired Alladyce despite knowing his flaws but simply deciding it was English only at that point. I think they have changed that viewpoint but who knows if they confident enough to do so because they would be weary of it being criticised as not supporting homegrown managers.
If he was our manager which other international side would have a manager of his calibre whilst at the peak of their career?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...England-manager-FA-afford-13M-YEAR-wages.html https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...l-England-Gareth-Southgate-World-Cup-next-job I am not even sure the FA will want to offer a new manager anymore than the same Southgate let alone anywhere near more double. Plus according to the Mail the FA still want an English manager if possible.
https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/23046547.newcastle-united-can-keep-eddie-howe-england/ No clause in Eddie Howe’s Newcastle contract which give the FA the right to speak to him.
https://yougov.co.uk/topics/society...e-wenger-publics-favourite-replace-sam-allard Badk in 2016 when Alladyce was sacked he was the most popular replacement (Through overall 55% of people said it should be English only.)
