Might be a good deal easier than trying to get Gregg to actually find a way to get the best players on the field at the same time or to say something meaningful and coherent. He uses the word "we" a lot but he says it in such a way as to show that he really means "I." His whole coaching tenure was all about him and not about the players or the team or even USA soccer. I think his next job should be at a good European club with NO USA players. That way his poisonous attitudes and perceptions will have little impact on how the USA does in the future.
And yet there's never actually been any evidence was involved in the process. Everyone wants to blame Jay Berhalter for some reason and no one ever wants to give Earnie Stewart any agency in the decision. As if he'd leave his job as the sporting director for an MLS team to go to one where he would be forced to hire who they tell him to. There's never been any evidence that the Berhalter hire was driven by anyone but Earnie Stewart, and Stewart continues to be very supportive of Berhalter to this day.
There's never been any evidence that Berhalter was ever the coach in waiting. For most of the period of the vacancy itself, Sunil Gulati was the president of USSF and they were waiting for the next election for a new person to come in and hire the coach. An election in which the Athletes Council was the decisive vote. I understand that alot of people don't like that Gregg Berhalter was hired as coach of the USMNT. But one can just say they think Earnie Stewart made a poor decision as opposed to coming up with conspiracy theories than no one has ever been able to verify.
I mean, we were debating his hire as the sure thing it was for at least a year before it was official, were we not?
Jay Berhalter did not hire Earnie Stewart either. He was the chief commercial officer of the federation? Why does everyone think he was secretly running things behind the scenes or that he was the only one empowered to do anything? Again it completely removes the agency of anyone else who was employed by USSF.
And everyone else in the federation, including the people he was reporting too, just stood aside and let it happen? And none of these people ever leaked that it was happening?
I sort of remember him being talked about as a prime candidate for a long time before he was hired, but I feel like I don't remember it being viewed as a sure thing until after Earnie became GM. I might be wrong though. That whole process was very unclear.
Part of that is to protect any coaches approached that don't want to be publicly named. Anyone think Mexico might have a harder time getting any foreign coach interested if the Bielsa story is true?
Oof. I know some people will be happy, but I am not. I do not look forward to who we get in that role.
I imagine this is not a case of him being pushed out and more of a case of him wanting to move to PSV. But hopefully we’ll get some reporting that. And being sporting director of PSV is definitely a good job. This is where you wonder about the McBride stuff and whether there was any consideration in terms of him staying on to take Stewart’s role. Cause he obviously would have been a natural replacement otherwise. Can’t imagine this doesn’t set back the coach search a bit though.
Sportsology Group will head search for next sporting director, per USSF. It has also already begun a full review of sporting department and is analyzing head coach candidates to accelerate the hiring process. March window definitely doesn’t seem doable anymore 1618642761665892352 is not a valid tweet id Also seems like the end of Berhalter for sure now. For those curious about the firm US Soccer has hired https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/nba/2021/4/14/22380676/nba-general-manager-mike-forde
Farther down the thread we see "Cindy Parlow Cone says USSF would like a USMNT GM and head coach in place by end of the summer."
