It is always a positive for me to see someone be able to replicate success at multiple stops, which gives more confidence it’s not just the set up at Columbus.
When discussing Cherundolo and LAFC in the past, it was always: but he’s supposed to win more. He has better players. But now that Nancy is “winning” with a team that gets paid more, there’s no mention of payroll. It’s “he’s still over achieving” Some of you have already admitted to being “Nancy Bois”, so it’s understandable. the reality is that winning one game doesn’t mean anything more than exactly that.
Coaching pedigree. He's definitely not getting a fair shake from the fans, from players, he may not get one (I'm not sure).
My point is is fairly common for elite soccer countries to hire managers with not a ton of experience and they’ve been successful and been fine in terms of getting the respect of their team.
I'm pretty sure that Berhalter knew that Pipa was not USMNT eligible. I hope you are not suggesting otherwise. As good as Higuain was in MLS he could not have done the same in the international game. You know who was an even better more successful MLS string puller from '15 to '18; Sacha Kljestan playing for Marsch's NYRB!
I’m not sure why he would possibly leave Spain but Spain’s Luis de la Fuente has interest in the USMNT coaching job, his representatives say. Details:https://t.co/20P8mxDoBq— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) July 14, 2024
In that, I very clearly noted he has some great players, so I'm not sure what your complaint is except it's complimentary of someone not Cherundolo. Who I don't even mention either way. I just think Nancy has gotten a lot out of guys that other people didn't think were talented.
The Spanish Federation has been a bit of a mess as of late. But odd for his representatives to affirmatively reach out in advance of the final. Spain could genuinely win the World Cup in two years while that’s not in the cards for us. The outreach does appear to be genuine but I’m skeptical without knowing more.
Wow. New number 1 option. LDLF hasn't been making that much if memory serves, just under a million Euros. You'd think that number would go up markedly now but the RFEF strikes me as sometimes dysfunctional, especially for the reigning WWC and now men's Euro champions. They might still have some negative financial consequences to the Rubiales mess, not sure. Screw sample size or seeing him work with second-tier talent. Spain has been so good this summer, you wouldn't think twice.
However, if you were trying to leak an out-there rumor to distract from actual negotiations this would be hard to beat. Presumably you'd make sure the subject was on board and not liable to be hurt by the rumor. Obviously de la Fuente now has a lot of career options. Maybe he sees this as pressuring the RFEF to do what they need to do anyway. I want so much to believe!
Maybe he's looking for a change of scenery and to triple his income? I am sure the USSF can meet both of those desires.
Interesting timing. RFEF appointed a new General Secretary in May. I don't know what the RFEF GS does versus the president. Rubiales was succeeded as president by Pedro Rocha, who apparently was aligned with Rubiales. He was supposed to be temporary (Nov 2023 Athletic piece) but seems to still be in office. Completely aside from the Jenny Hermoso kiss, the Spanish police raided the RFEF in March for evidence about corruption during Rubiales' tenure. So it strikes me as not crazy at all that someone would want out of that asylum.
Their stadium banners are supposed to make it look like Spanish is a co-official language there anyway. Can alter ego Mateo Croquero step in to land this deal?
