    Check out this resume.

He managed the Netherlands from 2008 until June 2012 and guided the country to the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, which was lost 1–0 in extra-time to Spain. He left this position after losing all three matches at UEFA Euro 2012. He qualified Saudi Arabia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he coached Australia

Which bigger managers? I don’t remember many (any?) guys who I’d consider to be big names rumored to be interested.

i didnt really pay attention to the bielsa stuff, but our big, ambitious sham of an approach for zidane was two months before crocker was hired.

Matterazo seems better than any of the other realistic candidates. If there’s no Klopp-like hire available, then it would be a lot easier to do worse than this. I think Renard, Henry, southgate and viera, for example, would be worse. Nancy is probably no better. I have been aware of him of course but haven’t followed closely, so it could be I just don’t know all his downsides!

Paul Tenario says his understanding is they are still in active conversations with multiple candidates.

Doesn’t mean he won’t be the guy but doesn’t seem like it’s quite wrapped up yet.

The thing is someone like that is not very likely to have interest in the US job and wants to be coaching in a top 5 league not coaching internationally.

For me he’s above the Cherundolo/Nancy line, which I view as the baseline. And I agree he’s better than the foursome of Renard, Henry, Southgate, and Vieira.

The only coaches who would be better are the elite club types who are unlikely to have a ton of interest. Like we shouldn’t hire him over a Pochettino but Pochettino is not likely to have interest.

That was most likely Sportsology. My understanding is they were essentially reaching out to coaches to gauge interest and they basically handed Crocker a list of people who were interested in the job for him to work off.

That's not a high level coach that should be targeted. And, he still would be OK, if he flexible enough to drop 3-5-2 as we don't have 3 CBs.

i still dont know what to make of that. they were supposedly hired to identify candidates but ended up leading to hiring crocker? or the story changed to that was always their role?

And who is the high level coach you’d like to target who would take the job? By all means we should reach to the best coaches available. There’s just unlikely to be interest from most of them.

Their performance in the tournament almost certainly pulled any interest away, that was crap, and I say that as a renard fan. Quite disappointing, especially compared to last summer.

Unknown elite candidate is always going to be better candidate for the job. But the reality is they are unlikely to be interested in the job.

By all accounts Crocker is reaching out the best coaches available. Do you think he’s the one turning them down or the other way around?

How do you know that? The last time it was a choice between Jesse and Greg.
Now it's a second rate BL coach and who else?

    Matarazzo means "mattress" in Sicilian.

No idea why I thought that was relevant.

It’s because as a general rule elite coaches aren’t interested in international coaching jobs unless it’s their own country. Do you think there are elite coaches who are interested and we’re just turning them down?

And I wouldn’t call Matarrazo a second rate coach. More like a guy who continues to show he’s on his way up. A much better choice than some of the plausible European options like Southgate, Vieira, Henry, or Renard.

They performed similar roles for both the sporting director and coaching role. They got hired before Stewart left and once he did finding a sporting director candidate was added to their list of tasks in addition to finding a coaching.

This is a fairly standard role for a search firm across sports. With Sportsology specifically they do have a bit of a mixed record in terms of who they’ve helped teams hire in soccer but also in other sports. Independent of their role with USSF.

A (Google Translated) public statement from Matarazzo in response to all of the reporting in the German media yesterday: https://www.kicker.de/matarazzo-scharf-es-sind-falsche-aussagen-1042167/artikel

"These are false statements. I never said that I wanted to leave our club. Anyone who watches me during training and games will notice that I am fully here. I am the coach of TSG Hoffenheim with full presence."

Though Kicker maintains: "The fact that Matarazzo, as an American, is listening to the interest from the USA is legitimate; after all, his contract expires in 2025 and it has been known for months that a power struggle was raging or is obviously still raging in Hoffenheim."

What was the single biggest change Emma brought to the USWNT?

Vlatko let a player who had no business being on the team run the show.

Emma picks the best roster based on current form. Enough said.

That's probably true as none of those four has anywhere near his record as a club coach. The hope would be he translates to international coaching like his old boss Nagelsman. I would think he could ask him for advice if chosen.

Would make sense that he would carefully weigh his options without burning bridges. I suspect he would like to see Hoffenheim extend his contract. If not, US becomes attractive.

Yeah now that his name is out there it sort of has to move quickly if it is going to be him given he is currently in preseason for Hoffenheim.

Though feels like the underlying reasons why he’s more open to leaving (lots of the sporting department leaving and scaling back of investment) won’t change even if he gets a contract extension.

I agree. If we can get someone like Pochettino or Pioli we should do that. Matarazzo is a good fallback option from those types of coaches.
