God, if only we could be in the CWC. :(

S-Pulse is too busy falling all over themselves this year. Al Ain from the UAE won Asia this year over BEC Tero Sasana from Thailand. Jubilo Iwata (Japan) and some Saudi club were supposed to be in the 2001 edition.

    I dont agree

Average Attendance in the Confed Cup.

    92 - Saudi Arabia - 42,300
    95 - Saudi Arabia - 13,700
    97 - Saudi Arabia - 18,300
    99 - Mexico - 60,600
    01 - Japorea - 34,800
    03 - France - ?

I found 3 different figures for France but none of them came close to 60,600.

Cmon, Mexico has hosted 3 Official Sr. FIFA tournaments (Mexico 70, Mexico 86, Copa Confederaciones 99) by themselves.

They do show up even when a mexican team is not present. Give us a little bit more credit, after all they all were a huge success.

We know how to host an event and we can make it work.

I was living in Mexico during 98-99. The Copa confeds was awsome. Going to the bars and watching games, going to the game, all the propganda on the streets, people talking about the games. It was awsome.

I know Mexico could make the WCC a hit. Like Blatter said, with he proper prize money... it could be a good tournament.

16 team tournament is being proposed? You can go to Mexico City, Guadalajara, Queretaro, Monterrey, Morelia, Pachuca, Aguascaientes, Veracruz and they would go.

Dont know specifics just yet as they are not released...but assume its like this

    4-FMF teams
2-UEFA Champions League winner & runnerup
    2-UEFA Cup winner & runnerup
    2-CONMEBOL Libertadores winner & runnerup
2 CONMEBOL Sudamericana winner & runnerup
    1 TFC Champ
    1 OFC champ
    1 AFC champ
    1 CAF champ

    Group 1 - Mexico City
    FMF
    CAF
    UEFA
    CONEBOL

    Group 2 - Guadalajara
    FMF
    AFC
    UEFA
    CONMEBOL

    Group 3 - Monterrey
    FMF
    OFC
    UEFA
    CONMEBOL

    Group 4 - Morelia
    FMF
    TFC
    UEFA
    CONMEBOL

so even the smaller clubs that people dont really want to watch that pertain AFC, CAF, or even OFC... will they will be accompnied by good groups

No way there would be more than 2 MLS teams if hosted in the US. Seriously, does anyone know how many Brazilian teams there were last time?

But to answer your question, yes you would be smoking dope. 4 teams from a 10 or 12 team league (MLS)? That's hard to swallow.

    there were 2...

the brazilian champ and the other was the 98 CL champ..

naturally i would include the defending champ... but since it was played in Jan. of 2000.. it wouldnt be fair

I would take the CCC winner and runner up from the 2 years prior to the Club Cup. Of course, you may end up with 4 Mexican teams after all.

You're right about that but hasn't this whole tournament been a mistake from the beginning? Worst case senario--most of the games in US but Mexico's entry plays its games in Mexico.

Vasco da Gama - 1998 Copa Libertadores winners

Manchester United - 1999 UEFA Champions' League winners

Al Nassr - 1998 Asian Super Cup winners

Necaxa - 1999 Concacaf Champions Cup winners

South Melbourne - 1999 Oceania Champions' Cup winners

Raja Casablanca - 1999 Africa Champions' Cup winners

Real Madrid - 1998 Toyota Intercontinental Cup winners

    Corinthians - 1998 Brazilian champions

i think that the prblem with the first one aside from the rpize money that is was too watered down.

I really dont think that an 8 team tournament is the way to go. assume this format in the US

    2 Local teams (Galaxy-Fire)
    UEFA (Milan)
    CONMEBOL (Boca)
    TFC (Pachuca)
    AFC (Al-Ain)
    OFC (Wollogong)
    CAF (Zamalek)

    Group 1
    Galaxy
    Milan
    Al-Ain
    Zamalek

    Group 2
    Fire
    Boca Jrs
    Pachuca
    Wollogong

    do you prefer this tournament.

    Group 1
    Galaxy
    Milan
    Al-Ain
    Zamalek

    Group 2
    Fire
    Boca Jrs
    Pachuca
    Wollogong

I wouldnt watch any of those games much less pay to watch.

Have 2-4 locals teams depending if its a 12 or 16 team tournament. You are going to want to over represent the local nation... afterall.. you want them to go to the stadiums and watch...

What a joke of a tournament, don't you all agree?

IIRC, it was Palmeiras who won Copa Libertadores 1999, so why weren't they seeded instead of the 1998 winners?

I doubt that even the most sensitive fan of the USA boards would propose a WCC with 4 MLS teams.

it was a joke of a tournament. In thoery it should have been a good one.

but problem #1.. prize money. need to raise the prize money and have a good TV deal

#2.. too many "watered down" games.

    at the 2000 WCC

    the groups consisted of

    1.Corinthians
    2.Real Madrid
    3.Al Nassr
    4.Raja Casablanca

    1.Vasco da Gama
    2.Necaxa
    3.Manchester United
    4.South Melbourne

One good match up too look forward to in each group? thats not not going to turn a lot of heads.

I think that the prize money needs to be higher and that the local federation and the stronger confederations should have more weight in the tournament regardless if you go with a 12 06 16 team tournament. You will need the local fans to be interested so they can go to the stadiums and you will want to see more better teams

by favoring the local fed a little.. you are are basically guaranteeing more fans from MLS...

i wouldnt mind if the MLS had 2-4 teams (depending if it was a 12-16 team tourny)

    FIFA said 16 Teams so:

4 Hosts (1 per CWC group/local team, top 3 nationally & cup winner)
2 Africa (CAF Champions League winner, CAF Confederation Cup winner)
2 Asia (2 AFC Champions League finalists)
2 CONCACAF (2 CONCACAF Champions Cup finalists)
3 Europe (2 UEFA Champions League finalists, UEFA Cup winner)
1 Oceania (Oceania Club Championship winner)
2 South America (Copa Libertdores winner &
    Copa Sudamericana winner)
    ----------------
    16 TOTAL TEAMS
    4 groups of 4
    Round of 8
    Semifinals
    Final

4 local teams is way to much. If they use futbol571 plan that would be 6 teams from CONCACAF and only 2 from CONEMBOL.

    U.S. considered leading contender

The 2005 World Club Championship should be played in North America, Central America or the Caribbean, a committee of soccer's governing body said Thursday.

The United States is considered the leading contender to host the tournament. FIFA set the field at 16 teams and said it will be played from July 17-31, 2005.

I went to all the Mexico City games, and many people didn´t go to the Saudi/Bolivia/Egypt games. The only went to see Mexico and sometimes rightly so (the Bolivia-Saudi Arabia game was awful). Still they went to all the Guadalajara games and if done right and having at least 2 good teams per group, it would work. As for the Conf cup, it was awesome. That was the high point of the cup, great games and great crowds. That final was the best time I think I ever had.

averaging 60K fans per game is still good.

but that is what i mean. you cant have the same format in the WCC like the confeds.

imagine America and Pachuca as the paticipants... not everyone is going to go watch them. the confed was different because the nat team was playing. I know numerous people that wouldnt go watch America or Cruz Azul. I wouldnt go watch Chivas. I dont care who they were playing

Hopefully MLS clubs can get in and do well. Lets see how they do in the Champions Cup next season.

    I sure as hell wouldn't.

Its supposed to be the best teams in the world.

1 MAYBE 2 MLS teams is more than enough.

While we are at it expand to 16 teams and bring in some teams from Russia/Easten Europe.

Schedule the darn thing during the summer (having to miss FA Cup was nuts).

I would love to see my metrrboys whip Milan (hey it could happen).

But we shouldn't go around awarding teams spots in tournaments just to make money.

Isn't this what blatter has been knocking temas for?

We want this tournament to be taken seriously right?

Even in a 16 team tournament MLS should not have 4 teams.

Maybe in ten years when we have 14-16 teams and more league-wide depth yeah but not now.
