The Organising Committee for the FIFA Club World Championship proposed today in Zurich, Switzerland that the next championship to be played in one of the associations from the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) on 17-31 July 2005. http://concacaf.com/view_article.asp?id=2224 I'm willing to bet that Mexico will be the host nation.
The reason I said Mexico is that this has been a rumor for some time in the Mexico press. In addation, the Mexican fed has been winning and dinning the top brass of FIFA.
You don't say! I think it should be held in the US or Canada though, to help boost soccer in places where the game is not yet popular. But this is FIFA and CONCACAF, and with all the Mexican TV money and lobby behind it, I bet it will all be staged for one of their clubs to take it.
I guess you were unhappy about the 2001 edition being held in Brazil right? They should of played in Venezuela to help grow the game.
Re: Re: Next Club World Championship To Be Played In Concacaf If is hosted in Canada, then who would represent the host nation? An A-League team? They aren't even considered to Concacaf Champions Cup.
Yes I was unhappy in the begining, but for other reasons. It sucked to see my team Flamengo out of it and everything staged for Vasco da Gama to win, but it was a fairy tale ending to watch them lose the final in a PK decision. Anyway this competition is another one of FIFA's clown tournaments, like the Confederations Cup. It doesn't worth anything as long the UEFA teams don't really care about it. For me the real world championship is decided every year in Japan between the Libertadores and the Champions League winners.
No, if I had a boss like Eurico Miranda doing all his behind-the-scenes 'sacanagem' in order to my team be disputing the final, I would be ashamed, but this is not a virtue of most Vasco da Gama fans, you know.
If FIFA wants to make the most money at the gate, they should play where Mexico plays most of its friendlies.
We don't need a host team here in Canada. Everybody will be cheering for all the other teams anyways..... BTW I think ManUnited is doing a Asia tour in 2005.... so scratch them out....
Next Club World Championship Tp Be Played In Concacaf Blatter is the one that wants the tourney to be hosted in Mexico. He suggested this after a visit to the new FMF building. Anyways if this gets on Mig's nerves im guessing he will boycot Copa America when it eventually gets hosted by Mexico..
Re: Next Club World Championship Tp Be Played In Concacaf Really? That must be news to Sepp. http://www.footballasia.com/scripts/runisa.dll?m2:gp::39913+mrel/news+55486+E
Re: Next Club World Championship Tp Be Played In Concacaf In principle I don't have a problem with Mexico hosting the Copa América as long as it's the finally merged NTs tournament of the Americas and it's not played there every now and then just for Mexico's convenience.
Re: Re: Next Club World Championship To Be Played In Concacaf Yeah, but people will only be watching the games of the Mexican team. In the US, these type of friendlies fill stadiums, which I don't think would happen in Mexico.
Really you don't think Manchester United, Real Madrid, or A.C. Milan would sell out? I'm sure a Boca Juniors vs Celtic match in Mexico would draw more than the 12,000 or so that went to the game in Cleveland.
Man Utd v. Club America didn't sell out in L.A. I'm basing my judgement off that. If the Mexican fans "starving" to see their favorites didn't come out, I can't imagine people coming out for another. Maybe I'm wrong. You answered that one yourself when you said: Cleveland.
Well, CF America -Barcelona did sell out the 100k Aztec stadium. Even when the tickets where the triple of the normal season price.
July 27 at Foxboro, Mass. Barcelona (Spain) 2 (Saviola 28, 41) Juventus (Italy) 2 (De Vaio 86, Miccoli 87). (Barcelona wins on penalties.) Att.: 30,192. That was a sellout? July 30 at Washington Barcelona (Spain) 2 (Quaresma 11, Ronaldinho 51), AC Milan (Italy) 0. Att.: 45,864. This was a sellout as well. Both those matches had lower attendence figures then the one in LA. July 27 at Los Angeles Manchester United (England) 3 (van Nistelrooy 47, Forlan 49, 79) America (Mexico) 1 (Patino 87). Att.: 57,365. Edit: I see you changed your answer. I guess your memory is a little foggy.
Do you think it would happen against a non Spanish or Spanish speaking team though? Obviously, I'm just drawing teams out of thin air (especially since I have no idea who won Asia) but I think AC Milan vs Shimizu S-Pulse would do a lot better in the US than in Mexico.
