Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph was happy to get on the scoresheet in their FA Cup win over Brighton.

The former Leeds United player was pleased to open his Villa account - even if he felt it made up for an earlier missed chance.

"It felt really good," Delph told Villa's website. "But I felt I should have had a hat-trick to be honest. Luckily I managed to keep going and got a goal."

"It was a big relief for me as I thought 'what have I done here?!' The ball came across and I thought I only needed a touch, but the keeper has made a magnificent save and all credit to him.

Many will see Delph's display in the fourth round clash as a major step in his development - but he insists he has much more to offer.

In fact, when asked if it was his finest performance in a Villa shirt to date, he said: "No definitely not. I thought I was very sloppy in the first half.

"I think I've got a lot more to add and hopefully with games, I'll improve."
